Official Barefaced Bass Cab Club

BB2 deposit placed. I'm building a PA system around the one I already have, plus the one I just ordered.

I'm planning on using a Behringer iNuke 4 channel 6,000 watt power amp, with a built in crossover (in case I decide to add subs, which I have "free" access to). I'm still deciding on a digital mixer, but I'm also leaning toward a Behringer unit, the X18. This will allow me mix and record 16 discrete tracks, as well as record the stereo master. The prices and reviews aren't bad for the Behringer gear, so I'm hopeful.

This is all for an ambient drone project I've got going. I just heard a performance by someone using a better PA than our group uses, and I got super motivated.

Edit - I ran a bunch of program material through the BB2 I already have, using my Demeter head. Man, it sounded good. I've got a pretty nice hi-fi system, but this had a whole different thing happening, in a good way.

... Really, the Four10 delivers all I need, so the extra Two10 option to make a Six10 is just pure vainglorious excess.
(emphasis mine)

I'd say the only appropriate response to that statement is

Lemme know how it works with the iNuke6000 (you getting the DSP version?) with the BB2 set-up. I have contemplated that power amp... X18 looks nice, but my "dinosaur" PMP6000 does everything I need, though it's a bit big with its 16 analog channels. I do like the idea of mixing via tablet. I have a few other Behringer items-- 2 powered monitors, 2 15"+horn passive PA speakers, a couple small mixers (Xenyx 1202, Xenyx 502)... I've never had any problems with any of it. I think the "reliability" knock was spawned by events 20 years ago that have, for the most part, been rectified long ago.

I have a couple of odd/end 18" passive bass cabs, generally unused (and unsold due to relatively low resale value) that I could use as subs if needed... the iNuke6000 would allow me to run them, using the crossover. I think you're on to something.

I'm after the NU4
Behringer iNuke NU4-6000 Power Amplifier

I don't see a DSP version of it.

I'll loop y'all in, once I get it all rolling.

Thanks man. The thing that seemed odd-- maybe due to a lack of technical knowledge on my part-- about the NU46000 was that, while it gives 2x3000W @ 4 ohms, just like the regular iNuke6000, it only gives 4x1600W@ 2 ohms, which would seem like about equivalent to 4x800W at 4 ohms just using rough approximation.... what happens to the extra power? Seems like that's half the total power of the other configuration.

Also 800W@4 ohms might be okay for a channel for monitor set-up, but I am not sure it would be good enough for a sub.

The way I see it, with the 2-channel if I run the cabs (both main tops and subs) daisy chained, I can get 3000W to the main tops (4 ohms due to chain) and another 3000W to the subs ( 4 ohms due to chain). That's about 1500W @ 4 ohms per cabinet, for all four cabs. With the 4NU-6000 run as 4 channels, I'd only get about 800W per cab at 4 ohms... and if not chained, it would be 8 ohms (hence even less power) unless the cabs themselves are 4 ohm cabs. So maybe I am missing something there... probably am?

Both versions have the crossover which is nice.

Of course part of my logic is based on the fact that I don't need the amp to also supply me monitor power... I have these 3 powered monitors. Perhaps you need tops, bottoms, and monitors, all run thru the same amp... but again still not sure the 4NU-6000 would give adequate power for a sub channel when split into four. But then... you could always just use the 4NU6000 for 2 channels just like the regular 6000; but then, why get the 4NU6000 if you'll use it like the other kind? And the regular 6000 can be had with the DSP feature which I think would be nice, allowing more control over the crossover and other facets of the sound reproduction.

Blah blah, blah, I know... but I just don't get why the power seems to be half as great in total when the 4NU600 is used as four channels, versus when it is used as 2 channels. Maybe you can straighten me out, this stuff isn't my strong suit.

Back to Barefaced stuff.

Check the last page of the manual. I believe you can bridge the C & D pair of outputs to send to subs for 3,000 watts @ 4 ohm.
The A & B stereo pair seeing a 4 ohm load will get 860 per channel.

I'm planning to power a Barefaced BB2 pair for mains. I will sometimes use passive subs, but not always. This lets me add them at will and easily flip the crossovers on/off as needed.

It seems to be talking about "peak", not RMS watts...

Just for a change used the Four 10 with my Subway 800+ yesterday, normally I use a tube head with the Four 10 and take the 800+ just as a lightweight backup. What a great sounding rig it made! Really surprised me - incredibly punchy and defined. Drummer and guitarist were both very impressed. I like that the cab has a clear baked in flavor which seems to pair so well with any head.

What tube heads do you normally run, and do you feel the mesa will de-throne them?

Ampeg V4b, Fender Super Bassman 300, Orange AD200, Trace Elliott V4.
I can't see me ever getting rid of my much loved tube heads, but what has happened is a major mind shift whereby the Mesa 800+ will be getting stage time in its own right rather than as a backup and practice amp. Honestly, the sheer mid range punch of the 800+ into the Four 10 was a real eye/ear opener for me. Part of this may be a natural synchronicity of the Mesa with the Four 10 as I was not so impressed with my TC Classic 450 into the BF.
