Another cabinet mic'ing question, this one is in a live performance context - What's the best way to mic a BTII or BB2 so we can catch the proper amount of woofer and tweeter? Or is it best to just go DI? I realize they are FRFR cabinets, but I feel like the feeling of "air" created by micing would add to the sound.

I've always mic'd the BB2, Fearless, fEarFul, etc. multi-driver cabs by placing the mic exactly in the middle of the cab, roughly a foot in front of the grill. More distance increases room noise. Less distance might accentuate the woofer or tweeter. Actual distances will vary depending on type of microphone, room acoustics, etc.

Just took the pair of One 10s and Mesa 800+ to band practice yesterday, instead of the Four 10 I usually take with an Orange AD200. I had forgotten just how loud that little mini stack can go, These are loud practices with a strong drummer and I was again amazed by how easily those two little cabs could fill a big room with tight, deep bass. Think I will be leaving the Four 10 at home more often now for practices. Got a gig coming up soon where I will be taking my "six 10" - Four 10 with the two One 10s on top. So many options and so little time .. .. Whenever I am tempted to order one of the 12 cabs these little 10s surprise me again and the order is put on hold.

Agreed. I did an afternoon outdoor gig today with my single One10, and it's crazy how good that 10" sounds. We had PA support, but a good portion of my volume was coming from the cab. Every time I consider upgrading, I do a gig, then say "do I really need to?"

Ok, learned Barefaced colleagues, I had an epiphany last night and now I have a dilemma and I need your advice and opinions...

I've been running a wet/dry setup and it sounds fantastic! I've been using my Ampeg cabs, because I had a matched pair. That makes sense to me. I ordered another BTII because I wanted to have a matched pair or cabs to eliminate any potential phasing issues. What I found out last night really changed a part of my thinking on this. About halfway through the second set, I got a wild hair and completely turned off the dry cab. The sound on stage just got a bit quieter, but still sounded like what I was used to hearing. It then dawned on me that I can still run a wet/dry setup and NOT need a second cab(or a second preamp for that matter, but I still think two pre's gives me a bit more control).

So, my dilemma is-after my epiphany, I realize that I don't need the BTII that I have on order. It's scheduled to be done this week, so I need to figure this out, like, now. I don't want to cancel it, since it's already in production, but I also don't want to spend the cash now, since I just found out that I can't use my PayPal LOC and I'm gonna hafta use my credit cards to finish paying for it. What do I do, folks? What's yer advice?

Sell the Ampeg cabs and keep the Barefaced

Srsly. You're already in this far. Get the cab and see if you like it. You might find that you could like it with your new wet/dry in a single cab setting. If not, sell it.

How will you run wet/dry without a two cabs-preamps and power amps?

A dry signal to FOH and the wet signal to my rig. Most DI's that are built into amps have a pre/post setting, so, if you're sending a "pre" signal to FOH, you're already, ostensibly, running a wet/dry setup. Once the cab is mic'd, you've got a dry direct out and the mic is catching the wet cab. I figured last night, that I really just want to hear the wet signal on stage.

Sell the Ampeg cabs and keep the Barefaced

Actually, I'd love to sell the Ampegs as well. I've got two LDS 15/6/1s that are just taking up space in my studio as well. I'm sure there might be a situation where I could use two BTIIs, but, after coming to this realization, I just don't think I could really use two of them right now.

Hey guys ! Who tried Markbass Ninja, Mesa Subway 800+, GK RB's or some heads from Glockenklang with Barefaced cabs ? Those heads sound really good for me bt probably the custom cab like Barefaced will be a necessity. Cab is always the weakest link in the whole rig so custom shop high end is my next purchase. Thanks

I get that. I didn't say it was a perfect solution, lol! Right now, my setup is true wet/dry. I'm running dual preamps, each going to one side of a power amp, and each side of the power amp is running a cab. My wireless has ABY capabilities, so one signal goes straight to a pre, the other signal goes thru my pedalboard to another pre.

I understand that, unless your preamp has an FX loop, anything you run into the front of the pre will come out of the DI, except for the EQ, if you send a "pre" signal to FOH. I would still probably run dual preamps, but I've come to realize I don't really need a dedicated dry bass cab on stage.

Contact Barefaced. See if they have another BTII on order.

Not exactly what you asked but I have used my Markbass F500 with my One10 frequently and it sounds fine. Any of the heads you mention will sound fine.

I've got a D800+ and a Quilter BB800 with my BTII, they sound phenomenal. Almost any amp will sound good through a Barefaced cab...
