I just got a Super Compact a few weeks ago. I'm absolutely blown away with how big and deep this thing sounds!
I kind of took a leap of faith as soon as it arrived. The SC showed up at my house on a Thursday. I plugged in my GK MB500 for a few minutes to see how it sounded. Since I live in an apartment I couldn't give it full run through, just a quick check to make sure I got a good sound. On Friday, the rhythm guitarist in my band and I ride shared to our gig in the Twin Cities (over a 2 hour drive away) and with all of our gear, I didn't have room for my 4x10. Knowing I was going to have FOH support anyways, I took a chance and took only the SC. A bit risky, as we had a big show with a special guest guitarist from a well known 80s hair band sitting in with us. The gig went great! I had the volume on the amp pretty low and the cab sounded huge! As the night went on, it only sounded deeper and fuller. The whole band was impressed. We played again on Saturday night. This time we were outdoors and the SC was more than up for the challenge. Hardly pushed the amp or cab and easily had plenty of volume and sat in the mix very well.
Thanks to Alex for such a great cab! The fit and finish are every bit as good as the sound. It was so nice to carry my cab, 2 basses on my back in a double gig bag, and a bag with head and cables all in one easy trip

How is your Puma and Barefaced combination going, it certainly looks amazing? The Puma 900 is the only digital amp floating my boat at the moment but I am not sure how well it would compare to my Ashdown ABM 500 EVO III. No doubt it would be very different paired with my Super Twin but I would really like to reduce the weight of the amp at some point. I play in a covers band so need a bit of flexibility but find that my Ashdown gives me just the sound I need with only a tweak of my Musicman Sterlings' on board eq and the occasional use of effects. All the extra facilities are wasted on me it seems. I had a negative experience with an Ashdown MiBass prior to buying my BFST and am nervous about changing (it just did not have enough volume).
Would you be able to give me any idea of the abilities of the Puma 900 with your BF cabs and how it may or may not work for me.

So far I'm really digging it. It's a super clean sounding amp. Perfect IMO if you plan to use dirt pedals with it. For me, the EQ points are perfect and simple. You can't make this thing sound bad.
The taste and LoMid knobs are what make this amp so great. You can set everything at noon and use just the taste knob to sculpt your sound.
I play in a rock/alternative cover band and usually have the taste at 10-11, LoMid at 1 and high at 1-2. Everything else is set at noon. Perfect tone for me.
These settings with my BJFE BBBOD make me completely happy.
Now I carry my bass with my puma in my gig bag and my SC's in each hand. One trip rig that is as loud as any rig I've ever had (vintage Acoustic Control Corp guy here).
This rig weighs a fraction of what my other rigs weighed and IMO does not sacrifice tone by losing the unneeded weight.
Thanks for your interesting reply Map34157. It definitely sounds like a possible option for me. The fact that the taste control allows for most of your sound needs is good news as I like to have as little as possible to change in the middle of a gig. The other bonus is that it may also be small enough to smuggle past my wife!

Can't speak for how that head works with the BF offerings, but I do agree that the taste knob is a fantastic tool on its own. You could probably have an amp with just taste and no EQ. I approve of this contemplated pairing.

For those not following my NAD thread, I got a chance to crank my Demeter head with the SC. That thing cranks out a bunch of power. I was actually a little concerned about it pushing the limits of the speaker with my P bass. Some EQ work tamed everything. It's a little clean sounding without a pedal in front, but very tasty.

Thanks to Alex and the guys over on Bass chat I've just ordered a Retro two 10 to repalace my aging Shroeder 1212L.
As much as I love that cab and it's never let me down I've recently realised I want something a bit more traditional and less middy.
I was originally asking about a 1x15 but it seems a 2x10 might work better. As I playing a lot of 60-70's covers I think the retro will add a nice tone to my bass.
I'm a bit nervous about losing perceived volume output, the 1212L is a very loud cab, but we don't play too loud and I'm sure I'll be fine.
Can't wait to hear it.

My big twin2 does have a HF driver. This cab is pure muscle. The highs are sweet and articulate. BB2 also has a tweeter. Full range. I play an FBass BN5 with Lo Riders and an FBass AC5 (Fretless) with FBass rounds.
Love the cab.
I've got a G3 SC and SM. I find myself turning the tweeter down on the SM more than longing for it on the SC. I tend toward a warmer, darker, thumpy clean sound, and I still find myself turning back my tone knob or darkening the amp eq.
For distortion and fuzz use, the missing high end on the SC can be a blessing.
I play rock and metal and industrial and punk, mainly.
I find the SC is still plenty bright. It does miss some high end air and zing, but it is not dark and muddy by a long shot. It can still do higher end growl and bite.
I will say the SC does seem to morph a bit in profile as it gets louder.

I'd also say that cutting bass eq can be as useful as trying to boost the treble. In general, they behave in a fairly balanced way.

Thanks guys. Please keep any thoughts/experiences coming. Yes, I've been to the website, many times. If it talks about a tweeter in something besides the SM, it's hard to find (for me at least).
