Official Barefaced Bass Cab Club

As Alex says, the BT3 sounds like the BB3 (and therefore also like a pair of BB3s), but more. I currently play through a Phil Jones C8 cab, and I've only ever had one experience where my rig wasn't enough for the job, and that was probably in large part due to my choice of amps... so I'm quite confident that one BB3 will handle my volume needs. But I've always wanted a matching set of cabs, and I want Alex's "more".
Curious, why did you opt for this vs a Super Twin?

I've been running 2xBB3's and, ok, I'll say it, I giggle a little every time.
The "the is an effing rig" moment is when my jacket actually moves because of the port air pressure. Not kidding

Not to go off topic, but that's a sweet bass, too. :bassist:

Curious, why did you opt for this vs a Super Twin?
A couple of reasons. First, when I was thinking in terms of getting a 212 cab, I wanted one with wheels. I talked with Alex about handles on the cabs, particularly about having an extendo-handle in case the cab wasn't tall enough to pull without stooping over, but he doesn't trust them to always be strong enough, not to break, and never to rattle. So that meant that if I wanted a 212 cab, it would be a BT3, as it's taller than the ST.

But along the way, I reconsidered getting a smaller cab, with the intent of possibly getting a second smaller cab later. So I started listening to Alex's cab demos, where he plays the same bass line over and over through different cabs. I eventually determined that I liked the sound of the BB3 better than the sound of the SC or SCT.

So then it was a question of wheels + stability + less overall cost for two 12s vs. easy carry + modular + less money up front for a single 12. I ended up going with the BB3, partly because I figured I could handle carrying the much lighter cab the distances I'd need to carry it, and partly because I could envision myself getting tired of hauling around a big cab to gigs that don't require one. I plan to eventually get a second BB3, assuming the first one is as good as I think it will be, so I can do stacks or stereo.

Excited to join the Barefaced community here. Got a two10s on the way. I've got no experience with them but with all the good things being said I can't imagine that I'll be anything less than pleased. Most excited about the weight reduction from my current rig. I've been gigging a pair of Bag End S15-D's and a GK 800 or 700rb for the last couple of years. Sounds great but heavy and I always wondered about how they say those cabs have a roll off of the lower end. Not exactly sure what that means since I've never perceived a lack of bass from the rig. I know I can't expect to play outside gigs with the Barefaced 210 but it seems like it will probably be perfect for your average bar gig. I'll have to pair it with my 800rb until I can get a lighter class D GK to go with it at some point. Always liked the sound of the 800rb into a sealed ampeg cabinet and by all my reading it sounds like the Barefaced 210 should pair nicely.

Story time, the mention of outdoor gigs made me remember this from a BBQ gig my sludge/doom metal band did 2 weeks back. I had my Retro610, with the Crown 1502, played for about 45 minutes and set went great. Loading off stage and the bassist from one of the earlier bands on the bill comes up to me and goes… "What the fork is that cab?" So I tell him… apparently he was a solid 75+ feet away from the stage (a reminder, outside) and he told me he felt everything I did dead in the chest. I was blown away… and considering the gig being outside and the coolers full of beer EVERYWHERE, I wasn't sure I believed him.

Until, that is, I heard video taken by someone who was within a few feet of the other guy. Alex, this thing is a freaking nuke. The only other cab I'm ever going to want in my life is another one just like it… and for no other reason than to make my guitarists cry.

Nice dude! I think the crown xls (newer) and barefaced combon is great. You running any hpf on the xls-1502?

Actually no… I'm using the HPF on my pre. If it didn't have one though, I absolutely would be. It's insane. I play with a ton of distortion (clean blended but still) and the clarity and definition that i'm getting are almost surreal.

Not sure if this is gonna work… but a sample.

Odds are you'll place the order on break after the first set you play through it. :D

I don't often need the volume I get from both of my BB2's, but I really like the tone I get from both. One is pretty amazing and does the job quite well for most of my gigs. But the fullness you get from a pair is just sooooooo … sooooo …

Well stated. The 2xBB3 setup does change the tone/feel slightly to a 'more full' experience. Twice the ear candy, same great taste.

That GK + BE combination was considered incredibly small and light at one time. My main cab for years was the shallow Bag End 210. I replaced it with a Barefaced Super Compact and shed over twenty pounds. Sonically, it hasn't disappointed!

Congrats!
Suggestion: Put the DG HB just after the tuner. Opens up the rest of the chain.
DJ, thanks for the advice! I've played professionally for 48 years, but I'm fairly new to pedals. I adjust my HPF slightly for each room, compressor is set to lightly smooth out the peak transients, and the DG HB adds just a little color, along with pulling out a touch of midrange. What exactly will I gain by using the HB earlier in the chain?

It allows the rest of the chain to act on the fuller spectrum of the signal. I usually run it right after the compressor. Again, a personal preference (note: the DG HL in one of the pics has been replaced by another Empress) but I like to tighten the signal first then open it back up so the modulation, time and space stuff can really do their things. The result (especially on swells) is speckley-tacular...like painting a tone. A Soundscape if you will (my old biz card while in CA doing studio work).

Alot of folks, including myself, have found great matches for barefaced cabs within the Mesa Subway series. I'm running a TT-800 with a pair of Big Baby III's. Will have those at some great outdoor gigs this summer.
Cool. I've been checking out YouTube video's and whatnot trying to narrow something down. I like the idea of the GK legacy series because I'm a big GK fan in general. The Aguilar TH 500 sounds pretty killer in some of the video's but I'm sort of concerned about how it will pair with the two10 as it seems to be a darker sounding cabinet and I've heard the same about the TH 500. Then there's the mesa stuff. I once had a 400 plus but that's the sum of my mesa experience. I'll definitely give them a listen.
