"Official" Carvin Club - Part 2

Rainy day here in Denver, so I did a quick clip with my SB5k! Please excuse the pitch issues, it's my first unlined fretless!!

Carvin SB5k w/ nickel rounds into my pedalboard... It's got some light compression (PWNZOR), chorus (detune mode on a Polytope) and a touch of EQing (B7k), with the neck pickup dialed back to about 70%.

Nice job on Over the Rainbow; got me all teary-eyed! Intonation seemed fine to me. If it were TOO perfect, that fretless (or chorus pedal, come to think of it) wouldn't have that vocal-like quality that makes a fretless so interesting. Let us know if you post more stuff!

Seconded. Make with the spoilers!

OK. Word on the street is that there is supposed to be a new bass coming. It's supposed to be available with a new Carvin-made, split P pickup w/an option for a P/J. Supposed to be similar to the B40/50 line, but with some body mods. If that's the case, that means that the delicious SB neck should be available, as should the preamp in a P/J config.:hyper:

But we'll see. They also said it was supposed to be on the website last week....The joys of faceless phone calls....

Note: Iconsider myself an unstrustworthy source for information, so rarely do I listen to myself. If I said it, it's not my fault.

Oh my. One can only hope.

Really, though, I've been looking for a good PJ for quite a while.

So have I. Unfortunately, I don't really dig the look of the B40/B50. Right now, I'd MUCH rather have a Bromberg 5'er with a P/J pickup, with an SB5k being second...

I'm glad you guys broke the seal, because I heard about a Carvin P pickup when I ordered my SB. Been keeping it to myself though, because I was told it was hush hush for now. lol

I've been gassing for an LB75 with a PJ pickup set. my LB75 is the best playing bass I have, but I'm finding that I want a P tone on a lot of the stuff I am doing. if they made the P Pickup available on all models, I would be trying to explain a 1400 purchase to the Mrs. in short order.

I asked Keith in sales just a couple of days ago when I was ordering some radiused humbuckers for my Icon, and he claimed to know nothing about any plans for a P pickups. He also said that sometimes new things pop up on the web site before he has even been notified that they exist and are available. So, who knows? :)

Same answer from the Facebook page

I sit on the Carvin Forums WAY too much.

In my Product Suggestion thread I inserted a photoshop of some ideas for a split pu. I always liked the discontinued "electric blue metallic". I figure if we get THEM to have GAS, we're one step closer. Here are the photoshops that have been sitting there a while.

:D

The thread was started May 2011. I'm not the only one to suggest this. Carvin DOES listen and respond. Time will tell.

I've been on the fence about an SB4000 in Radiation Green with maple board and black hardware. If I could get a P+J, I'd be hitting the order button a lot faster.

I've considered getting a blank pick guard and routing it for a P, then just doing a small swimming pool route so I could swap at will, but I really like the no guard look, too.

Dang, I'm starting to see myself buying a few new basses this year.

There's been some interesting discussion of a Carvin P pickup in the Bromberg thread as well... including Bring himself weighing in. Check it, it starts about #655.

I have plans for another SB (fretted this time), but a Bromberg P/J. That'd most likely move to the top of my list VERY quickly. Whoooo eeeeee...
