5sg, what an AWESOME bass! I'll be surprised if yours doesn't end up in the Carvin catalog like gumbynotpokey's did.

Looks like Carvin has started charging extra for streak-free ebony fingerboards. I'm definitely interested to see the pieces that have some streaking. I'm guessing they'll look pretty awesome.

Will Carvin send you pictures of the pieces of wood they'll use for your bass? I suppose it would be somewhat time consuming for them if everyone wanted pictures of their wood before it's cut.
I've heard that they will, for an upcharge. but it also depends upon who you talk to and whether or not they had enough time that morning to get breakfast >_>

Similarly, I've heard that if you just suggest something, like I would like only moderate birdseye[/] and letting them use their discretion, you probably won't have to pay extra. But who knows.

I like streaked boards myself. Most people that want Ebony, want it dark and uniform. I figure they would be happy to get "rid" of a streaked ebony board for no extra charge.

There have been cases when Carvin has taken pictures of wood, but there is a serious upcharge.

Thanks Woody. The reason I ask is that my LB75PF is on it's way for a truss rod replacement. Carvin told me a new fingerboard is included in that work, so I'm considering asking for the gnarliest, streakiest piece of ebony they have. It'd be nice to see it first, but I think I'll just have to go for it.

Yeah, just ask. I asked for an especially light colored piece of ash on my last order, and they did it for me at no charge. Of course, they didn't take a picture and email me or anything, but the end result was great.

Thanks man!!! I actually kept tabs on the Carvin Facebook page to see if pics of it popped up like Plong's did, but no dice. I'd be absolutely THRILLED if it showed up in a catalog! :bassist:

I tried it out a little bit at rehearsal tonight for my gospel band and it sounded pretty killer. I was surprised at how well it fit in in that setting. Sounds KILLER with my Aguilar Octamizer and 3Leaf Proton (and the combination of them). And let me tell ya... Fretless SB5k + IE Polytope = Instant Jaco. Very cool.

Nothing new or special popped up this week on the site relevant to bass, but there is an incredible burst in the GIS that is in an all-new format. If on a stand, the burst is solid a the neck end, moves down the sides and simply ends. That is, the burst is open on the bridge end, as if the middle color is spilling out onto the bottom strap button.

But nothing else this week.

The body looks good.....but that neck is hawt!

lol... Well, that was easy. Thank you!

Here's a slightly (not much) better pic of my B50.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding Carvin's policy, but doesn't an option 50 negate your ability to return it?

Yeah, but people have sweet talked them in to making an option 50 returnable on occasion. Maybe Carvin made this one as an experiment, too. I've seen other strange paint jobs on the in stock page before. Once they had a swirl type pattern on a bass, I think it was an LB70, and I think they made it for NAMM, then sold it.

Rainy day here in Denver, so I did a quick clip with my SB5k! Please excuse the pitch issues, it's my first unlined fretless!!

Carvin SB5k w/ nickel rounds into my pedalboard... It's got some light compression (PWNZOR), chorus (detune mode on a Polytope) and a touch of EQing (B7k), with the neck pickup dialed back to about 70%.

Agreed, just ask them for something super streaky and I'm sure they'll find you something just like that. They are really cool like that in my experience with them :)
