I'm looking at buying an LB75 from a dude here on TB. Based on what I've read, it seems like a good deal, and pretty much what I'm looking for, but I've never actually played one. I've pretty much got to try out a bass before I buy it, so I was hoping there was an LB owner in the Phoenix area that wouldn't mind letting me sniff his bass before I commit.

The finish itself is nice to look at and has a clean silky feel. I have to say that the tone is great. The coating is not as thick as the one on Pedulla basses and, perhaps as a result, the tone seems to be a bit more organic. The fingerboard is also pretty impervious to string damage due to the coating. I’d call this a good hybrid finger board approach that beats Ebonol hands down.

Ok just curious, thanks for the info. I kept seeing BB's basses with the shiny finish too and was thinking about asking Carvin if they still put it on. But in the end I opted against it. I prefer the sound of straight unfinished ebony anyway as there's very little to no mwaaah. Sounds more like a fretted which is kind of what I like.

Mine when I got it had carvin flats on it and it was the splitting image in terms of tone of BB's sound even without the finish on it. With the TI's it really barks especially through my GK amp....

Carvin B510N combo!
(BX500 amp, B210N cab)

My future holds a custom cabinet built to hold 2 Carvin NE12-8 woofers.

Am I wrong in sending my signal (from the BX500) to an 8ohm 210 cab and a 4 ohm 212 cab (with ohm switch in back on '2')?
- or -
Should I go with an Avatar 8 ohm 212 cab and push the same wattage to both the 210's and 212's?

I understand that that the 4ohm 212 would get more power than the 8ohm 210, but is that necessarily a bad thing in this case (212's pack a nice punch)? I'd be pushing 500 watts total and I do not look to be playing arenas in my near (or far) future...
Ideas?

Sounds like an LB70PF (or an LB75PF or LB76PF depending on how many strings it has). It is neck through, correct?

I had an LB70PF with a maple neck and koa body wings. Very light and playable fretless. I didn't care for the piezos soloed but when blended they gave a great "airy" feel to the tone.

I've never played on a Carvin, but after getting their catalogs I've been really impressed with what I've seen. Until recently I wanted to get a TBS4 (Timothy B. Schmidt signature model), but I think I'd rather get one with tone controls on it (a TBS4 only has a volume knob).

I'm especially impressed with their new SB series, but other models look very good, too. Hopefully, I'll get the opportunity to buy one (it's about $$$, of course) in the not-too-distant future.

In the meantime, I'll just keep playing my Precision and dream.

I'll trade you my classic sunburst fretted XB75, then you'd just have to pull out frets instead of a whole refin :D
