My "new to me" lefty LB75P fretless arrived today and I spent the evening cleaning her up and getting her setup with new strings. I have never played a Carvin before so this is really different. So far I quite like it but was expecting more mwah. Someone posted that ebony has less of that tone then some other woods which was news to me. I will post pics and a decent review here soon.

Used is the way to go as this bass was a steal compared to the new price.

Being an owner of fretless LB75, I'd say no. You can get a lot of 'mwah' out of it, but it depends on the setup and your playing manner. Strings can make difference also.

Here she is. I am very impressed so far. i still need to work on the setup to maximize the mwah factor but she plays like a dream.

Thanks mang. I certainly am not very good at navigating the "blank plank" but its fun to mess around. I did play a four string fretless (with fret lines) exclusively in a country band of all things a few years ago and I was quite comfortable with it. {;aying fretless is what caused be to totally rethink my tone and I am now such a junkie for that snarly growly bridge pickup type of tone. The humbucker on the Carvin delivers that tone in spades. It still ain't no Stingray, but she sounds pretty good.

has anyone else had trouble finding a freakin truss rod tool for these bases! I looked everywhere and went to three music stores today and no one has a tool that fits. I went through all my sockets and wrenches and could not get anything to fit.

I finally borrowed a 1/4 nut driver and was able to get it halfway onto the rod as the angle into the cavity is pretty steep. What a production! i emailed Carvin today about purchasing a proper truss rod tool and hope to hear back from them soon.

I am hoping that the quick adjustment I made today does the trick, but I may need to tweak it again to maximize the playability of this gorgeous fingerboard.

A hardware store may help. You know, where they sell ratchet screwdrivers and all such staff. You need a straight (most likely with a T-form handle) socket screwdriver with changeable bits. Useful in household too.

Thanks! 121 works well.
I post a pic, but it's just a BX500 amp and 210N combo (both by Carvin) - we have all seen tons of those pics.

I wonder if anyone can say what this head sounds best with (if they have done some experimenting)...
- 410

- 410 + 210 (angled)

- 210 (speakers at an angle) + 210 (speakers side by side)

- 210 + 115

- 210 (angled) + 212

- 210 (angled) + 215


I say angled because the combo came with the speakers aligned as such.
Current 210 angled cab is 8 ohm.
I would run any extension cab also at 8ohm (to run the amp at 4ohm, even if it is 2ohm capable).

you can buy the Invalid Link Removed, all small parts ship at a flat rate, so pick up some strings at the same time so that you don't spend 3x the cost of the tool in shipping.

Crabby - I've had trouble with that in the past as well. I have one truss wrench that fits all my basses except my Carvin (or any of the Carvins I've owned in the past) which needs the Carvin truss wrench.

Seeing as how there's a Carvin store is right by my house I could always pick one up and mail it to you if need be. Let me know.

Great info everyone, thanks. I did check out the Carvin site and see the wrench is only a few dollars. The big pain in the butt is the shipping etc. I called the Carvin 1-800 number and spoke to a guy in the parts dept who asked me to email him for my request. I also requested a Carvin nameplate for the case as its missing on mine. I may not be able to get the name plate as they don't normally stock them which seems a little strange.

Thanks very much for the offer Jared. I may take you up on that if I don't get an answer from the Carvin rep I spoke with on Monday. That would certainly save me a few bucks. I haven't got the truss rod set up quite right yet but I can see how it will be very sweet once she's properly set up.
