Well, a friend has decided to start playing bass again after about a 17 yr "break". He was a beginner then, so he's still a novice obviously. We went shopping at GC cause the pink bass he has just ain't as cool as it once was LOL! I've recommended Carvin basses and amps/cabs to him. He has his heart set on an import bass, but the used Carvin cab we messed w/ was impressive... an older (gray carpetted, 8 ohm, 18 w/ 1/4" only jacks). He didn't have the $$, so I used my free $20 preferred customer giftcard, and snagged it for $129!! I'll let him buy it from me later... maybe hehehe. I'm gonna be watching for a used B800 for him, my fave amp.

Jedi Bass, That B800 is what I use. It is a Killer amp without all the whistles and bells. When they put them on sale, I was told they were out,but one arrived at my doorstep a few days later. (I guess I got either the last one or second to last one on the dock.)Anyway,I sure like it. If anything happens to it I'll snag a B1500 for sure.

I use my B800 w/ my Acme Low B2 in a fusion side project group, where I play fretless. Sounds SO GOOD! Will try the Carvin 18 cab with these guys, maybe w/ Third Obsession too.
Been using Carvins since '95 and have been pretty happy with them. The blueburst LB75 is the only one of the 3 not original: I changed the p/u's from EMG, then to Barts, and then recently (2 days ago) changed the preamp to a audere 3ZB - wow! ).
I'm also using the BX500 head (very sweet and so much better sounding than the redline series (IMO)).
I'm currently selling the Icon as its not getting any love at all (sound absolutely incredible, but it just doesn't fit into a Maiden tribute band's look

My New SB4000!
Wow, that finish, along with the block inlays and horseshoe, really gives that the vintage look! A lot of the psuedo-vintage stuff looks cheesy, but Carvin did an exceptional job with the SB, much like how Lakland did with the Daryl Jones model. I'm seriously considering ordering an SB5000 (with a more modern vibe) as a present to myself for getting my Master's in December.
Just last night, I debuted an XB75 on a gig that I've had for about the past month and a half. It needed some work on the electronics and hardware, along with a set-up, before it was gig worthy. Sorry, no pics yet. I'm pretty excited now, though, because I have three Carvins and can join the "Private Collections" page on the Carvin Museum website.
May I join? Also have a Carvin B500 amp not pictured.
this is my B5 Kit upgraded with Bart 3-band preamp. Swamp ash w/Tru-oil finish. Modified body shape.

can you tell me more about that Tru-oil finish?
How do you achieve that? That has the look I think I want to go for...similar to that Warwick bead-blasted finish...where you can feel the texture of the grain and yet it is still protected.
Also, how soft is ash w/o a clear coating? hard enough to live without it?
My old 1986 LB60K that I bought new. Solid Koa body, flamed Koa neck. Used it a lot in the past, not so much anymore. Stills sounds and plays great.

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you, but I paid a $1,100 for the Icon IC5. I bought it directly from the Carvin Sacramento store. It was up on the wall brand new and basically is a very simple version of the Icon, nothing too fancy except for the flame maple top. The rest of the bass is pretty stock.
