I'm curious as well. I've had an Elrick with a mahogany body/ebony board before, but not with pickups so low. I do like the Zon Sonus Specials with pickups in a similar position. If it turns out I love the bass but prefer a pickup closer to the neck, there's plenty of room to put a third pickup in the "standard" neck position.

I didn't know Elrick made a 34" scale...

Would anyone be interested in trading me a 34" 5 string Elrick for my 35" 5 string Fred Hammond Elrick bass?

Elrick will do most scale lengths with custom orders. I've owned 33", 34", 35", and 36" scale Elricks. Coming across 34" Elricks with more than four strings is very rare though.

And unless Fred Hammond's chops come with your bass, that's not a huge selling point :D :D

One question for the Elrick enthusiasts out there...
The Bartolini soapbars on Elricks, are they custom made, or are they some standard production model. If they are custom made, can you tell me little more about them, and if they are standard, which exact model are they? And what about Bartolini preamp?
I got interested in Elricks when read about them and heard some soundclips, from Bass Emporium newsletter. Beautful sound, so I was thinking, maybe i could upgrade my current bass, with the same electronics and pups, so I could get closer to that sound, because, its gonna take a couple of years before I'll be able to afford an instrument in an Elrick price range

The Elrick soapbars are not custom- they're production models. BUT- that doesn't mean they're all the same models. Bart makes several different tones of soapbars- my 5-string fretted has the CB-style soapbars, while another one of my Elricks with soapbars had different models in them. The preamp is the standard Bart NTMB (or Aggie OBP-3).

If anybodu could perhaps recognize the model of Bartolini pickup from the soundclips, that would be very helpful. I was realy blown away by the tone on this one!

It would be really hard to pin down which particular model of Bart soapbars is being used when so many other variables are involved in the tone of the bass. You'd be better off asking Rob Elrick if he remembers.

Awesome- post pics :) Mine should be here Wednesday or Thursday. Rob mentioned that he'd be out of town for a couple of weeks. The NJS Expatriots are arriving very soon. Strange this is that their prices appear to be very close to the price of regular NJS models- I wonder if the stores that have the prices listed are allowed to give a higher maximum discount for them or something.

OK.....after a bit of debate, my Elrick is going nowhere. I'm a Fender guy at heart, but I just got the mixes back from a gospel session I did last week...the Elrick kills for that vibe! SOO much growl and midrange warmth; it really just nails what I'm after. I'll post some audio files when it's released for those interested.

I believe that Rob is going to discontinue building the NJS to allow the production of those to be shifted to the Czech Republic. He will still build them, but they will be sold as an upgrade. I look for very good things on the Expatriot, unlike other builders who have shifted some of their load overseas, I don't know of any other builder who has had so much control over every aspect of the bass. Rob has hand selected all the wood, pick-ups, electronics, and will set up every bass himself before they are sent out to the dealers. I think these basses will be more on the level of the Sadowsky Metro and less like the Lakland Skyline or the MTD basses.
