I do not have an Expression Pedal to use with it yet. Hopefully in the next week. I am looking at the Mission one designed for the H9 so you can use the expression and a switch. As to the MIDI I don't know what I can do with it I have a Boss ES-8 already but still have no Idea of even the basics of how MIDI works or what it can do.. I just use the ES-8 right now as a Programable switcher no MIDI out use..

You’ve got to learn the MIDI. The ES8 becomes a whole new beast with it.

This is a nice little primer. If you just try to experiment with a simple PC message out of your ES-8 I don't think you can really mess anything up.

I also find that the funk setting does very little sound wise. And I just got my expression pedal Just have to figure out how to set up the switch

After a very successful gig, i have bought a second H9. It has replaced my Strymon Timeline (it has left my board, after 5 years of usage. it was the oldest pedal in there). So, for now i am updating the software. P.S. i use a Boss EV-5 with a first one.

Yep, adding a 2nd h9 is something of a gamechanger. And i just love that i can use either h9 as a distortion, delay, reverb, tremolo or modulation or whatever else i can think of. Still, the el’capistan ain’t leaving my board lol

the first h9 i use with midi (H9 + Mobius + Big Sky) for easy lives. the second is for an adding of something special (Black Hole etc.).

Digital Octavers sound and behave differently to analogue ones. Not better or worse...just different. So the Eventide H9 has some great digital octave algos...just don't compare it to an analogue one. Zachary Rizer / ProtonLenny did a great youtube on this. Zachary is a really helpful guy and really knows how way around the H9's and Boss ES8. He's a big influence on my current board. The word Luminary comes to mind when talking about Zackary.

Those free algorithms are only free if your H9 is a Max, or if you have another Max and you're sharing algorithms. Do you see Pitch Fuzz in your H9 Control app(s)? You should be able to purchase it. Or do you have another Max and it's not loading on your new Core?

Ah. I only have a core. I didn't see any verbage stating that it's only free for the Max...but that would make sense. I do have a free dl if I need the pitch fuzz algo.

What are my fellow bassists finding essential on the H9?

It's showing up in the app but there is no new firmware to put it on your unit, I think the firmware is in beta.

Well, I think just a simple aux controller would work. The Barn OX3 is fancy, but there are cheaper, less slick options.

I control mine by MIDI, using MIDI Designer on iOS hooked up wireless with a Zivix PUC+. Works great for me, but it's a lot of extra gear and I know that's not for everyone.

There are also MIDI controllers that will do this, like the One Control Gecko. Personally, though, those are quite pricey for very limited functionality, I would either go with an aux box or full MIDI.

You could just do the app as well.
