I tried the update to my PF. It did not work. Apparently some other people are having the same problem, per the above thread on the Eventide support forums. They are looking into it.

I AM DISAPPOINT.

GOOD NEWS. I got this to work using the older Eventide Update Utility. This did the job, and I was able to connect my PF to the H9 Control app. It it AMAZING. I haven't fully explored the software, but 95% of what I wanted to be able to do with a computer I can do with this app, and the last 5% (I hope) is just because I haven't figured it out yet.

Now, the newer Direct Updater should still work, but all I care about at this point is that I've got the functionality.

BIG WARNING THOUGH:

Doing what I did overwrote my presets. Make sure you back them up (fortunately, mine were, more or less)! Sorry I forgot to post that earlier.

Hey guys, I want to give a huge shout-out to Eventide. I updated my Modfactor to v5.0. I haven't really tested it out, because I then tried to updated my Pitchfactor and things went sideways on me. It is only booting in "Update" mode, and it won't actually update. However, even though I bought it used and it's out of warranty, Eventide is offering to fix it for free (only cost for me: shipping to them).

Huge props, that's the sort of customer service you expect from one of the small builders that is active on the board here. Not a big company that doesn't really need my business.

Hey Eventide gurus! This may be a dumb question, but I'm trying to decide between a PitchFactor and an H9. I dig all the functionality of the PitchFactor, but I like the form factor of the H9(I've already got 2 Strymon pedals and I'm running out of real estate). I mainly want it for the Octaver and the pitch shifting, but there's plenty of other stuff in the PF that I can use. What would I need to do to an H9 to make it more like a PF?

Well, you can buy all the Pitchfactor algorithms for the H9. The downsides are:
(1) it will be expensive
(2) I don't have an H9, but on the regular Factor series I like having all of the parameters immediately accessible with the knobs
(3) With the H9, as I understand it, you can have an external footswitch or an expression pedal, but not both simultaneously (although there is always MIDI)

Gotcha'. Thank you. Although I have midi capability(I have some Source Audio stuff with the Hub and a midi foot controller), Sounds like I may need to just stick with the PitchFactor. Not having any parameter controls on the H9 was something I was concerned about(I'm getting used to that with the Strymons). Thanks again.

Adamixoye hit some key points, but as a former Pitchfactor owner and current h9 owner I can preach the praises of the h9.

1: the h9 core(cheap version) comes with the 910/949 algo. This algo alone is super flexible and can do more than pitch. My favorite chorus is a preset from the 910/949.

2: the parameters are all accessible from the front panel of the h9, just not as laid out and straight forward as the Pitchfactor. iOS is still the easiest way to edit though.

3: midi is king with these types of devices. Do it all. I made my h9 a simplified Pitchfactor, but I'm still using other algos as they're so interesting

That's all fair enough. I came back to post something along the lines of your second point. I am now using the H9 control software on my Mac laptop for my Pitchfactor and Modfactor, and it is really great. My understanding is if you have an iOS device, you can do it wirelessly with the H9's? If so, that would be pretty sweet. But if you're not going that route, then it is nice on the Factor series to not have to do (at least) a second-level dive into the menu for editing the presets. (Though there are plenty of deep dives you can do with the Factor series if you want to edit system settings, etc.)

Hey boyos

Sorry if this has been asked but you Eventide gurus - do you think that if one is to buy the H9, is it worth it to buy the one with 9 algorithms or the core and add what you need?

I guess what I am asking is are the 9 that they come with so classic and so awesome and so amazing that I will end up buying them anyway OR is it better to build your own from downloaded algorithms? The difference here in the UK is basically that equal to 8 algos. So it's really only the 9th that you are getting for free. But if I would end up buying the 9 anyway, well then its worth it.

The price difference in the UK is about 8 algorithms? That seems odd. I thought in USD, the H9 vs. H9 core was about $100 different, which I thought was about 5 algorithms @ $20. I may have the algorithm price wrong.

For the algorithms, I like the ones they included from the Modfactor (Chorus and Tremolo) and Pitchfactor (H910/H949 and Crystals). I would probably buy those if I were in your shoes. I'm not a huge delay guy or reverb guy, so I can't comment on the ones from the Timefactor or Space. The demos I've heard from the Ultra Tap sound pretty cool, I guess the H910/H949 is already included, so to me that's probably just four algorithms I might conceivably buy? YMMV.

If the core was available when I bought my h9, I would have gone that route. I really don't use many of the included algos personally. Ones I bought are quadravox, pitchflex, harpeggiator, digital delay, ringmod, and resonator (when it was on sale). Out of the existing algos, I use the h910/949 for a chorus, and a tremolo. But that's about it.

Right now at Prymaxe the H9 is $499 and the H9 Core is $399. I thought the algorithms were $19.99 each, but I can't find that info anywhere.

That is correct. $20 for an algo. They have done a special for resonator for $10, and will likely do more in the future.

Also if you already own a factor pedal and have it linked to your eventide account, then all of those algos should be available for your h9 as well. A cool feature they added since people complained about having to buy the same algos they already owned.

I've been wondering about that. I heard it was just two coupons per Factor pedal? But I got that off of a message board and it may be out of date. Do you lose the algorithms if you sell your Factor pedals?
