Official Joyo Club Part 2: Beyond Thunderclone

Not a member of the club, but I'm new to bass and want to get a couple of cheap effects. Looks like it's a go on the Ultimate Drive. I also want a good comp for bass. Does joyo do that, or anyone for cheap? I have an MXR SuperComp, but it still has that DynaComp thing going on that doesn't really work for bass (or doesn't sound the way I want it to, at least). I guess I want something "transparent" (I hate using that word for effects, but there it is). Can Joyo satisfy me?

I am currently using the Joyo Dyna Comp and so far have no complaints. I bought it since it was inexpensive and it was my first foray into using a compressor. It is very quiet and doesn't seem to lose any lows to my ear. I've been using as an always on pedal for both my Sadowsky and my Modulus Fleabass which I have strung piccolo. While yes I am currently wanting to upgrade to a more feature packed compressor where I have more control I have no complaints about the Joyo and would recommend it to anyone, especially if cost is a factor.
Thanks for the reply and the recommendation. I'm probably going to pass on anything in the dynacomp family. I already have that base covered. I don't really hate it on bass, and it leaves the low end, I think. It's more something it does to the high end that bugs me. I'm not exactly in love with it for guitar either. It's great for that classic country sound and funk and stuff, but you can definitely hear the sound of DynaComp. I'm looking for something you don't know is on until you turn it off, if that makes sense. With all the boutique designs Joyo rips, I figured they might have something like that.
No problem! I definitely do notice a difference when I turn it off! My sound is much more even and present when it's on which I why I currently leave it on all the time now
I think it also might be the fact that my bass has humbuckers. DynaComp isn't known to preform well with HBs. It would probably much better with something lower output and really clear like a J. Seems also to be the case on guitar. DynaComp loves strats and teles and not much else.
But I'll give it another go and see if I can make it work for me. I just gotta have that fat HB sound! (funny, 'cause I'm the opposite on guitar. Give me pristine highs or get out!)

I would say give it a try and see what you think. It's only $28.50 on Amazon right now! I use it with two basses that have J pickups, a Modulus FJ-5 and a Fender fretless J w/EMG's, but my Sadowsky is a Modern 5 which has soapbars on it. I haven't found that any range of my frequencies have been lacking on any of the basses. Obviously to each their own but it's hard to beat for the price! The ones I'm currently interested in are close to $200!
I have the Joyo Dyna Compressor. I have no problem with low end loss. But there is a change to the sound. I think the best way to describe it is a hint of deep overdrive, but just a hint.

Im literally minutes away from pulling the trigger on an American Sound. I've been quite unhappy with my MS-60B, or at least the amp modeling/DI side. I run passive basses into an LH500. I want a little grit if I dig hard and a pleasant, and not as headache inducing, mid-bump, without losing low end. Nothing crazy, just some light clipping. Will the American Sound help me out?
Yeah, it'll do exactly what you want, with a lot of flexibility in the eq and character knobs. I use mine with an LH1000 set mostly flat (small bass boost) and it sounds great.

If you keep the American's character knob left of noon the mids aren't as present. You also have the mid knob.

Right on. I run mine with an lh1000 set completely flat. I keep the voice knob about 10 o'clock. Does light to heavy overdrive very well.
Just bought an Ultimate Overdrive on ebay, hope it doesn't take too long to get here from china.

I used to run my through a VT Bass, a VT Bass which I no longer have. Even though the VT (in my opinion) does horrible things to good dirt pedals, it did always sound pretty good. But it sounds much better being fed to a Rusty Box.
Why ebay? Amazon ships these things out in like, 2-3 days.
