Kind of silly, since I am still waiting for my American sound to arrive, but have any of you modified it to top jacks? It would make the pedalboard tetris so much easier.

A friend of mine has this nice trick. He takes the new bass to parts, puts the parts in to a plastic bag, and then brings the bag to home saying "a friend gave me some instrument parts, I might try to put them together some day".
His wife probably knows exactly what he is doing but figures he deserves the new bass if he is willing to do all that work for it
Going a bit off topic here, I have an EHX Micro POG at 100% dry, 0% octave down, and 50% octave up first in my chain that I occasionally turn on to fill out the sound below some solos. It sounds a bit weird if played clean, but followed by some dirt it just adds some extra highs to my sound.I got interested in the pedal cause we are a tree piece, and I want to try a fuzzy octave up, when guitar is playing leads/solos. But whit this I think I need to blend in the clean bass as well. May work, may not. Fun to experiment when it

On topic: My American (together with a Palmer DI) has replaced my BDDI at the end of the chain, sounding a lot better. My guitarist quickly ran off with my Joyo tuner pedal (the korg pitch black copy) for his other board. He is quite happy with it after he figured out why it was tuning his guitars slightly flat: It arrived set to A=438 Hz or something, but that's configurable with the small button at the top end.
A POG vas my initial thought, maybe even run the effect through some dirt to taste and the clean out of the POG to blend.

Head to head, British versus American, which one gets the nastiest? Does the British do big tube gain, like a matamp? And the American would be like what, the new dirty fender tube bass head?
British indeed gets very nasty. I really like both and have been using the British as my clean tone and American as all out distortion.
Just rearranged my board to do the opposite just to see what happens. So far I am loving the British dirty, it gets very "crunchy" whereas the American is "smoother".
Can anyone tell me a cheap way to record samples to a pc? I would love to be able to do some simple recording of different settings.

Right on. I'll be honest I tried using the Octave Up setting on every possible setting I could think off and found it completely unuseable to my needs. But I just love the regular Octave Fuzz on it's own so much it was a keeper for me. Hopefully your able to use the octave up as a lead like you stated.
Yup. Another believer. I felt the exact same way. Totally different vibe then when I use my Black Russian but both sound oh so good, for different applications.
I'm afraid to get a British for fear of muddying things up with all the extra tone shaping with both on for heavier tones. Has anyone run the American almost clean into the British set for planet annihilation? It will be this or an Ultimate for my next step up. Barring I don't come into enough money for a rat tail or tall font.
Also, with xmas worries out of the way, next paycheck will mean trem time has finally come. Can't wait for all the stuttery goodness.

This is exactly how I'm using my British and American right now. Sounds amazing by itself, haven't got to try it with the band yet.
They sound pretty damn good the other way around too, and that I can tell you works great in a band context.
It should work well as long as you don't go crazy and try to make them both super dirty. If you stick to one of them as clean-ish or both at medium gain settings, you should be fine.
Now the hard part will be narrowing down between the Brit and the UD.

Seriously they're both awesome. If I could only have one or the other, I might lean slightly towards the British. Mostly because of the eq... Thankfully I don't have to choose at $30/each
If joyo made a muff clone with a mids switch and a decent octave down I could just about have a Joyo only board and probably be quite happy.
