So I've noticed a bunch of you guys go through Laklands like tissues... Does anyone have a Lakland that they simply can't see themselves ever selling (at least in the foreseeable future)?

I've got a CAR 55-02 "classic" (has a mint pickguard)...that I've come very close to selling several times. Actually met a local guy to sell it, but fortunately, he didn't have enough cash and wanted to write me a check....ummm...let me think....no thanks. So that spared me the mistake of selling that one. It's an '05 that I bought brand new in '05. Started off as a fretless, then was sent back to Lakland and had a fretted neck put on in '06. I can't get rid of it cause I know some producers that wouldn't hire me if I did. It's such a great bass too. I've moved more basses in and out in the last year than I would care to admit. I must finally be settled for a bit...or my wife might kick me square in the nuts if I swap any more gear.

I have gone through a few laklands though within the last year or so. (2) DJ5s....great basses, but just not what I initially thought I needed/wanted. The first DJ5 was around for a couple of months. The second, barely a week. I ended up trading it for a Fender MIA 57RI. (1) DJ4...really really liked that bass. had to move it though cause I needed some cash quick. And it was the one I could sell fastest and for the most $$$.

The [insert said bass here] I'm getting is STAYING! I absolutely will not be getting another bass till the Skyline BG5's come out.

Well, looks like I've missed about 30+ pages while moving to my house on the 12th, painting, pulling up carpet and laying some wood lam flooring. Still have a garage full of boxes to go thru too.

My band has made it to the finals in a battle. We could win about 6K in goodies, and better yet, an opening slot for a big name. Wish us luck please.

I'd have to agree with jason on this one. The USA JO5 is really something special. If I didn't already have a USA JO5 (that's more beat up) I would have kept it as my numero uno bass. It's something really special. So I'm guessing he'll keep it. But again...I thought you'd keep the DJ5 I sold you too.

Yeow. Sounds like you didn't screw it into a stud. Or is it a joist? I haven't done carpentry in 15 years, so it gets kinda fuzzy...

haha...ya...me too. I really wanted to rock it. It slammed. The Nordy pickups really sounded different fromt the Lakland pickups. (used to have a DJ5 with lakland pups). Just couldn't get it dialed in all week gigging it. Not sure what it was about it that just didn't speak to me. Deep down, I think I'm a P bass guy. Which I better be, cause I'm gonna have to keep this P bass for a good long while. (the things we (well I) do) :scowl:

I see you got a DJ5 on it's way back to you....and the PJO5 that I was after. Nice score. I hope the PJO5 rocks as hard as I think it would.

Must be one of them there optical illusions. The DJ is definitely a bit smaller. The JO is fatter in the arse like J-Lo.

Hey guys and girls,

I'm still a couple of months away from buying my first Lakland but I'm wanting to get all my questions sorted first. I'm looking at a Darryl Jones 5. So...

Should I go with passive or active?

I play funk and a bit of dub/dance mixed in there. I'm using pedals a lot and plan on getting quite a few more. I'm not super into fuzz though - have heard that some fuzz pedals don't play well with active basses.

How well do the Audere preamps work with effects?

I did a search but couldn't find any direct comparisons between active and passive in the same model bass.

Mine had a J-retro and I think it would be GREAT for your type of music.....make sure you order it with the bass as the plate is "special" since the cavity is a slightly different shape....

I've toyed around w/ the idea of selling my 44-02d to help fund a Hollowbody, but it's so damn versatile, I think I'd really miss it and just end up buying another one later.

I am following Evan's lead and will be taking my 55-94 fretless (not named yet) in for an acrylic/epoxy coating.

The Chromes are just not doing it for me......played them for a couple of hours last night and they just do not feel right and....yes they growl, but there is something about the "thump" that I do not like.....

will get the neck coated and then will get a set of nickles put on it....

as an aside, the chromes are scratching the neck as well (wierd).....

will also be taking Blondie in for a look over to make sure everything is "really" OK......

not sure when I will be going but....hopefully soon as I want/need my fretless.....

(Although I seemed to REALLY suck when playing it last night......really sucked...... luckily I was only playing at home....had to apologies to the family for the "noise"...)

I checked out sound clips of the Fralins and loved how smooth they sound. Add that w/the wonderful craftsmanship of US Laklands and I think I'll have a winner. And a KEEPER!

On top of that I can't even afford to ship a bass right now so it'll be staying LOL

I think there are a lot of Lakies moving around right now, in particular. I chalk that up to a couple of things. First, money's become tight for some folks, so they're selling. Second, as a result, prices are dropping in the used market. And third, everyone who went to the GTG came away with hardcore GAS for US Lakies! So there's an "upgrading" cycle right now as people buy US models and sell Skylines.

Plus, there are some LOGers who can't resist buying/selling/trading no matter what the environment is, of course.
