Official Markbass Club Pt. 2

I recently got an F1 from here in the classifieds, and I have a question for fellow F1 owners/users. When I turn on/off my LMII, it is dead quiet, but I found that when I turn on my F1, there is slight "pop". Also, when I then turn off the F1 there is an upwards rising "zip" sound. Sorry if this isn't the best way to describe it, but is this normal for the F1?

Tony, those things also happen with mine, and I think I read Ken post that they happen with his too.

How are you liking it?

I finally got the small rig that sounds great! I couldn't be happier. 60 pound 2x12" SWR bigfoot cab and 5 pound amp. I just take that and my pedal board and my Stingray 5 and I'm set.

Ok, good to know. So far I am liking it, but I've only had it one weekend, so I need to get more playing time on it before I make any final decisions with it.

I think my LMII with my Stingray 5 slays. I get all the tones I need. I do like using my Warick Corvette when I need serious growl/ grind. I get a great slap sound out of both. The Stingray has a slightly more trad slap sound and the Warwick is ultra modern sounding. I can cover all the basses (bad pun intended my brothers and sisters) with those two basses and my rig.

For a few reasons, we've been playing a little less since I got mine a few months ago - and my LMII is the one at the rehearsal studio, where we've spent most of our time. So I've only gigged my F1 3 or 4 times too. But so far so good. I do think the very subtle differences between the F1 and LMII are entirely to my liking.

Does anyone have any idea how the tone of the LMIII800 will compare to the F1.
Will the LMIII800 sound closer to the SD800/1200 than the F1?
Im asking because i believe the F1 is closer to the LMII than the SD heads.
Ive not tried an F1 so cant be sure but i did notice a difference between the SD800 and LMII a couple of years ago but im sure Ken J said the F1 sounded different.

Agreed. With my Berg cabs, I feel like the F1 gives me a touch more open and sweeter top end, and a slightly more clear overall tone. It does this while still maintaning most of general tone of the LMII, which for me is a very good thing.

This is the BIG question. If it sounds like a BIG F1, I'll buy two:D If it sounds like an SD800 in a smaller box... not so much.

Same here (although i cant afford two ;-).
I dont really need more power but having a bit more headroom would be nice. And if it has a slightly faster attack then even better.
Im hoping i can replace my SA450 with one. Not that its not doing a great job already but the LMII is fine for the band i use that with and i am playing a bit louder with the other band.

That looks like the older, heavier, pre SMPS design MB head (like a pre SMPS Little Mark). I bet it sounds good!

Before Markbass came to North America, they had an all yellow hetal covered head called the Little Mark. It is identical to the picture of the red one. They came out with a limited edition F-1 painted red like the one in the picture. Not sure about the production numbers. I believe these came out after the Ernie Ball heads that they made.

As previously stated, they're about 11 lbs. It's nice to have seeing how popular the brand has become. It's neat to own a unique model from such a good manufacturer. They did have a gig bag for them back then but I have never been able to find one.
