Can you do that? But it's a combo :0 Man I'd totally dig that!

If you can unplug the cable to the speaker outs on the back, you can add two cabs (2 x 8ohms or 2 x 4 ohms). Bear in mind that unless you physically remove the "head" from the combo box, you gotta drag around the whole thing - in addition to those two Ampeg fridges.

Ok - Yes, I am a member of the Marshall bass amp club. Then, as time went on, I was reluctant. I wasn't sure if I wanted to still be a "card carrying" member of the Marshall Bass Amp Club, so I put my MB4210 up for sale on Craigslist in order to finance another amp.

Let me backtrack - I played my Peavey Cirrus (18v active for those who don't already know) through this amp, and it sounded ok, but very overdriven, even with the -10db engaged. It was farty, and square waved. Semi inarticulate, not crisp, or warm.

I never got any calls or responses. In the meantime, I went to Guitar Center, etc and tried EVERY bass amp combo that was available to try over a few month period. The Problem was that I could never find an amp that sounded better than the Marshall, even though I wasn't 100% happy with it.

During this time, I picked up an old Ibanez lawsuit era Fender Precision bass clone. Passive pups, maple neck, etc.
I plugged the Fender PBass clone into the Marshall - WOW !! Nice, warm, articulate, growl, etc. On the "classic" channel the amp sounds like an Ampeg SVT, and/or any classic bass amp. The "modern" has a more upright sound.

So, I have concluded that this amp is FANTASTIC for passive basses, but I do not recommend active basses. If you want a really nice, reliable, hard rock bass amp to be used with the likes of a Fender Precision Bass or similiar with PASSIVE pups, and you want that Geezer Butler, or Deep Purple bass tone, then you will be pleasantly surprised by the Marshall MB4210 Bass Amp.

A year ago I posted that I'd put some pics up but never got around to it. Now I have!

Marshall Integrated Bass Series 3520 head. 200w into 4 ohms. I've wired it up to an ancient Zoom 1202 multi-fx and a Yamaha BBT210s cab. The case that the head and zoom are in is by Marshall too - a 4U case originally supplied with/optional with the Silver Jubilee bass heads.

The day I bought the head I also tried a 1977 Marshall Superbass (mint condition with the original valves - an amp I would die to own!) and the 400w bi-amp version of the IBS. It's a good thing we were a long way from any housing as we were very loud.

Irony is that now I am gigging once a week, the amp I use it the house Crate bass amp - a complete heap.

Ahh OK !! so this is where all the Marshall owners hang out.

I have a MB450H + 4x10 + 1x15, so i get the full 450 watts, but have never had to turn the level past '2' (yet), even playing at a stadium gig, maybe i'm doing something wrong, like driving the input a bit too hot?

I can't wait until the warranty period is up, then i'm going to open up the head and made some hot-rod mods to the Modern channel eq. If that works out all right i will post some details on how to do it. ;-)

Hey guys...just wondering if any of you MB owners have had this happen to you?

Every time I turn my rig on, I get a louder-than-hell popping sound from my speakers. I ain't kidding...it moves air!!

The amp sounds great and I love the HUGE array of different tones the modern/classic/blend is capable of, but I'm afraid that the pop will damage the speakers and that it may be a symptom of some other problem.

I've made a habit of turning all of my volumes down before I power down, but even when I do, it still pops when I power back up!

Any ideas? It's an MB450 into a MBC410 and MBC115. I use the supplied power cord run through a fused power strip. Thanks in advance...E207

After losing confidence in M-Tronics', the Mesa, AZ service center for Marshall, ability to diagnose a problem, I took it to a well known Phoenix Service Center for Marshall - Field Services. They've been in business forever, and I hear they are very good. They had my amp for 4 weeks before I finally called and asked what was going on. They told me that Marshall couldn't identify the part that they thought to be the problem - the main power switch.

So I called Marshall, who was about as much help as a lump of clay. They said they would "research it" and get back to me. The woman I spoke with seemed genuinely more interested in finding out who at Field Services gave up her name and number to a lowly consumer, than solving the problem. Another week went by, then I finally caught my break.

I called Don, the salesman at Milano Music, where I originally bought the amp and told him about my hassles. He said, "Relax, I'm on it! This is as good as taken care of." Don called me a few days later saying that he had made contact with his guy at Marshall and he regretted the hassle I'd been through, apologized, and said my amp would not be repaired, but completely replaced.

Don called me again a few days later and told me that my new amp had shipped, and it arrived today!! I tested it several times to see if it had any ammunition inside, and so far, so good!

A big THANK YOU goes out to Don and all of the guys at Milano Music in downtown Mesa, AZ for taking personal care of their customers! My new amp sounds great, and my faith in the good ol' Mom & Pop music store is rock solid!!

I am starting to find that my MB4210 just isn't quite cutting it. I want to try an extension cab for it, but don't really fancy parting with money if it doesn't make a massive difference.

So I ask, does the extra 150w make enough of a difference to stick with this amp, and which cab would fellow users recommend. I fancy the 15" but I also kinda fancy the 4x10. Thoughts?

Here' MY experience with the extension cab - I play with a loud hard rock band. I attached my 810 cab to it. So, I had the combo itself, and an 810 cab. It was loud and clear, BUT it was on 10 - I had no room to go any higher.

We were in a 20'x20' studio. It was a drummer, a guitar, and me. Now, I think the BEST situation would be two 810 cabs split (since this can go down to 2 ohms) - one left and one right. But then again, if you had the money to get two 810 cabs, then you would most likely have a rig that suited that.

To answer your question, yes, it made a big difference. The application I see for this is for bar gigs, or rehearsals where you want to be louder, and split your cabs for a more spacial sound.

Again, I have considered selling my MB4210 many times, but there just isn't another combo that sounds as good and has as many nice features. No other combos even come close to the sound these have. I always get compliments.

So, did I answer your question ? I don't know. Here's my solution - Find one or two used cabs that you can get a good deal on, and they are at your disposal. But, also have a bigger stage rig for the big boys. That way you're set. Hope this helped. PS- Don't go with a 15. You'll be diappointed. Go with at least a 410.

I may or may not be joining this club soon.....as I may or may not be getting a Major.......just a quick question......Will the Lead version be significantly different from the Bass version, and would it stay decently (tube-ie with some grit) clean up to a certain volume before snarling up?

Delfin, your English is perfect. Here's your situation. The MB450 is 300 watts/4 ohms and 450 watts/2 ohms. The MBC410 and MBC115 are both 4 ohm cabinets. Combining any two of them will give you the 2 ohms you need to get all your desired power.

I have the 410/115, and I'm happy with it, but I have heard many say that the 810 is the "perfect cabinet". Does 2 x 410 work as well as a 810? I don't know. Is it all just a matter of preference, rather than clear fact? I don't know.

One thing is for sure though: the 810 is a 4 ohm cabinet and will only give you 300 watts of power.

Yes, BUT you can use TWO 810's and get 450w of pure power ! This puppy drops to a 2ohm load ! You can also add an 810 cab (or any 4 ohm cab) and between the extention cab and the amp itself, you have 450w @ 2 ohms. I have done this. It was loud, but I believe two 810 extention cabs would sound great. Just find two cheap, ugly, working beater 810 cabs and you have a wall of sound !

I DO love this amp !!!!! It has the best tone of all combos I tried, BUT I need to thin the herd. I am swimming in gear.

I bought it new for $700 and have used it a total of about ten times. I removed the Marshall logo because it looks better to me. I have the footswitch new in the box.

$450 plus shipping or local p/u in SF Bay Area.

ohhh yess - it has finally arrived - even still got the sales stickers on!

A kind soul from another forum pointed me here so thought I would introduce my rig - it's a 450h with 4x10 cab and 1x15 cab. Only just now trying it out and we have a gig this weekend - can't wait to turn all those luvverly knobs up!

I'm a novice player as such (although I have had ordinary guitars for years) and ended up playing bass by request (in other words they couldn't get anyone else and they already had a rhythm guitar player). I'm really pleased I had a go and whilst I had the pleasure of playing previously with a (loaner) Trace Elliott ah500 - 12 with matching 4x10 and 1x15 - I simply couldnt afford that set up and in the interim was using a behringer combo which was fine at home and for practice but just didn't have the grunt when i tried it at a gig recently and ended up having to DI most of the signal through the PA bass subs to be heard!

So far as i can tell, the marshall stack sounds on a par with the trace - no doubt only time and a few gigs will tell.

We are playing mainly modern and classic rock covers at present and I am mainly using a jazz copy 4 string bass (westfield) so would welcome any advice from you guys as to settings to get that nice rock thing going on. Also have just got a tanglewood rebel 6a bass and I'm going to retune to eadgbe and experiment a bit with solo stuff - be interesting to hear how that beast sounds through the marshall set up

Anyhow, off to practice now and blow the guys away...
