I have a cleaning question. What do I use to clean the body of the RIC? I know to use the cloth provided but what about stuff the cloth won't wipe off? For example, my guitard asked to handle the bass. Apparently with greasy/dirty hands and put prints on it I can't get off.

I know RIC recommends pure carnuba wax but will that remove the prints? Thanks everyone.

I've been using Dunlop 65 for years and it works like a charm. I believe that Ric recommends carnuba wax, but I have never used it and just polish with the 65 after each use.

naphtha -lighter fluid is a great cleaner.

Otherwise, most music stores have various cleaning products.....most of which I think are basically variants of windex.

For polish, I use car wax/polish. Meguiars is good stuff.

serial # plate has an 11----for 2011?
Played it a little at break and gonna play it more at lunch.

first impressions:
Case condition was perfect.
tiny. tiny flaw near binding by the bridge.
tiny imperfections at he bridge/body
nut was ever so slightly postioned leaning towards the bridge.
neck very straight.
action slightly high---no prob.
paint runny/orange peel on upper bout front
three seams on back(one in the middle)

I don't consider these "problems" to be problems.

I am VERY happy with it!

if i still played 4's i'd be all over one of these things - i love the color. and i have pimp rics already.

I have not successfully played 4s since 1989 and I had to jump on this sale. I tuned this bass BEAD since I use the extra real estate of the B string more than I use a G string and I couldn't have been happier. A 4 stringer that finally works for me.

Sounds like if you dont want yellow binding you better make sure its from july 2010 or newer.

Not always. Mine was 04/10 and my binding was almost as white as the pickguard. No hint of yellowung whatsoever.

I meant long term , as they changed the way they sprayed it in june 2010.

Yep, it works wonders. I usually just breath on the print area I want to clean and buff it (like one might cleaning glasses). But when I want to clean up more or breathing on it won't work, I use Zymol.

For a deep thorough cleaning and removal of surface scratches, I use Scratch Doctor by Nu Finish. If still too many scratches, I then go to the slightly more aggressive Scratch-X 2.0 by Meguiar. (Scratch-X 2.0 is a newer formulation, the original Scratch-X formula was superb, quite gentle, while still being thorough. Unfortunately, it has been discontinued, the closest product available is Scratch Doctor.)

Then to polish it off, Zymöl is tops. It smells like cocoa butter to boot. For just a light cleaning, removal of smudges, light scratches, dried wax swirl marks, etc., just use the Zymöl and skip the scratch removal product.

Oh yea- use cloth only such as old 100% cotton t-shirts, old cloth diapers. Don't use micro fiber cloths as those are made from mono filament and can do more harm than good.

A Ric restoration specialist recommends this Scratch Doctor/Zymöl treatment.

Not mine, it's from March 2011, call it cream not white (when compared to pickguard).

Likewise, the binding on mine is a substantially different color and it's a 2/2011.

The neck binding is barely more white than the body binding. I remembered this being the case, but to verify, I asked the worker that has scraped the binding for the last twenty years and she confirmed this. You also have to take into consideration that the body gets heavier coats of paint than the neck, which will alter the color of the binding to a slight degree. We get those bindings on separate spools at different thicknesses by the way. The pickguard is not the same kind of material, nor does it get sprayed over like the binding, so it is very white.

Meguire's cleaner wax will.

I started using it a while ago, after running out of Gibson polish(what I always used), and found the finish is slippery enough for me to blow dust off of it. It also seems to mask fine scratches really well, too.

I have this old soft cotton t-shirt I use to wipe the wax/fingerprints off.

except i play 7's and 8's now pretty exclusively, and have for the past ~18 years, so playing a 4 feels -really- weird. . still, though, they are pretty beautiful.
