I have 2 JJs 12Ax7s in mine and like it was earlier stated, definitely made the eq more usable.
I'll also add, I love the expressions I get from other bands when they find out my "little lunchbox" has 500 watts. lol

Why did you sell it? what did you replace it with? ...and if you miss it, that's a sign ...maybe you should have kept it.
well i sold it to fund the sunn 2000s so i don't really regret it at all
. I was GASing for it for so long that it was the right thing to do, but the TB gave me allot of good times. especially the times watching my guitarist lug around his 70's ampeg head and 4X12 cab 
. I will have one in the stable again though, just as soon as that rich relative i don't have dies, and orange starts accepting imaginary trust fund dollars

LMAO! ...All the best. I've let gear go before ..to fund something new as well. Sometimes I regret and miss whatever I sold. But I don't think I've come full circle and bought it again. (Whatever it was) I wish you the best with the Sunn.
For me, I freaking LOVE the Bass Terror 500. Really enjoying it's performance, huge sound, small footprint, lightweight load factor! ...and KILLER tone really.
I just did some experimenting with 12ax7's in my Orange Bass Terror BT500.
The factory tubes look to be some sort of Chinese tube. They look very similar to the Ruby.
I tried some brand new JJ12ax7's (EC833). Good. But honestly not flipping my switch.
Then I plugged in a new Tung Sol 12ax7 into V1. heck yeah! VERY good!
Went back and forth between JJ, Tung Sol, Stock and a new Ruby 12ax7. Honestly, the stock tubes really aren't too bad. BUt ...I think the Tung Sol was best followed closely by the new Ruby. the JJ was dead last. The JJ was a bit congested and maybe had too much gain. There is more clarity and usable EQ range with the Tung Sol 12ax7 in V1.
I then compared all tubes in V2. Didn't have another Tung Sol. So it was between Ruby, JJ, Stock ...and I tried an RCA old stock 12ax7 as well. Decided to save my RCA' for my Guitar amp(s). It was good, but not night and day. The Ruby wound up sounding best.
Wish i had a pair of each (Ruby and Tung Sol) but I was experimenting in a guitar amp, and only bought one of each for V1 testing.
Oddly enough, the JJ's sound killer in my guitar amp. But not all compelling (IMO) in the Orange Bass Terror.
(Settings; Gain at noon, Treble - Noon, Mids, 10 o'clock, Bass Noon to 1 o'clock, Master at 9 o'clock. Cab is a Baer ML112. Bass is a Nordstrand VJ5C, ash/maple 5 string jazz.

Them & tung-sol are my 2 faves in the amps I've tried em so far.

Hi just got a tb500 and a sp12 cab on saturday and gigged it that night.
hearing still a bit wooly.
Loud is an understatement and what a tone-wonderful.
What a combination,very small and easilly moveable.
How do you get such an amount of sound from such a small rig.
If you need something louder you are either deaf or insane.

I pulled out the stock 12AX7's and plugged in a pair of 60's vintage Telefunken 12AX7's. The guys in the band, even the drummer, remarked at how punchy my amp sounded after the switch. never changed volume or gain settings at all.
Is it possible to change the quality of the sound by adding a better quality tube or is it a perceived change?
500w out of that little box is amazing. I really can't imagine the TB1000.

I think you just answered your own question in that same post.
Depending on the design of the pre amp, changing tubes may indeed change its tone for better or worse.
In some amps it might be a subtle tonal difference, some may change markedly.
The TB500 seems to react quite a bit to a V1 position tube swap.

I just sold my TB500H and one of my SP212's, one SP212 is left, it will be dearly missed, but nex week, Gallien Krueger Fusion550 is coming and markbass std102hf. It was really nice to be in this club, and I still am as long as I have this SP212, but it won't be here for long.

I did think it sounded punchier as well but I was expecting some sort of change just did not know what I'd get. It's not like I changed tube types, just added two high quality direct replacements. The plates are twice as long in the Telefunken tubes as the ones the amp came with. I'm a huge fan of the TB500! In many ways I like it better than my AD200b Mk3.

Count me in! Extremely impressed with the BT500 so far, incredible tonal versatility considering the simple controls, and finally something tough enough to really work my Schroeder 1010. I'm going to try some tube rolling with some vintage Sylvania and RCA tubes, as well as a old USA Mullard and some newer import stuff... exciting!

Now I have Ashdown perfect ten and I like the sound but B string from my Spector shows limit of combo.
Orange has nice EQ options,1x15 and 100W(enough for home).
What you think(review,sound samples would be good)?
Should I go with Orange or look for Ashdown(price of the crush 100 is top limit for price)?
