Official Orange Club II

Yeah, I have an old V4B that is all fresh, new tubes, recapped, and in great cosmetic shape, and I finally (after waiting for my band maté's previous bass player from a different band to get his gear out of the space), got to bring it to the studio with the B40 4x10, which is also 27" wide. I was massively disappointed with it, which is what put me on the hunt for more power, hence the AD200. The one thing I didn't do is bring the 212AV to the studio to try it with the V4B. It may have been all I need, however, this is trivial to most, but the 27" head on top of the 24" cabinet would always bug me.

I guess I'm glad it worked out this way, since I now have the Orange! Now I just need to get a fair price for the V4B. I've had an offer for $800, and as much as I want to recoup my money from the purchase of the Orange, I just can't let it go for that, esp since it's probably the best vintage V4B anyone could find.

Not to mention that I have a '73 V4 (not B) that has been converted to 6550's and that I run with a V4 cab loaded with 4 Eminence BP122's. This has been my live rig for a while and although I have to push it right up to the edge, it works really well in the venue's (small bars, no FOH for bass) we play. Just the right amount of tight low end and good solid mids that cut through the 2 guitars and drums. I'm really hoping, when I finally get the OBC115, that it will give similar results, albeit, different from the Ampeg.

Yeah, the weight is something I'm thinking of, as well as size. IF I were to use the OBC115 for gigs, I know I'd have to take it in my GF's hatchback or my truck. I know my '70's B40 4x10 and '70's V4 4x12 fit in the trunk of my car, and I'll find out on Monday if the 212AV fits (it is 2" deeper than those old cabs). And the OBC's are even 2" deeper than the 212AV. The weight is probably just at the top of what I'm still willing to deal with, so that why I'm pretty sure I'll end up with one. The OBC410, on the other hand is out of the question. Beyond the over $1200 list price for new, the 100 lb is just too much.

I'm really hoping I can get GC to give me a good deal on a new OBC115, AND let me have a 30 day return option. I would only return it if I found that I absolutely HATED it, or if I just can't get it to sound good in the space it will be used most.

Weight.... yes, a big issue for me. Hence....

Fender Bassman Pro Neo 115s fit the bill. Doesn't have the look, but sounds superb

The only thing the manual states is:

2. Speaker impedance switch
Make sure this switch matches your speaker's impedance.

So if your total speaker impedance is 4ohm, use the 4ohm setting.

So finally I got to use my new (to me) AD200 MK3 with my SVT212AV with the full band at rehearsal tonight and WOW, what a great combination of amp and cab.

It was almost two weeks ago that I brought it to the studio, right after I bought it, and used it with an Ampeg B40 4x10, which is essentially a V4 guitar cab but with 10's instead of 12's. It's a sealed cab, and mine was loaded with Eminence SC10-16's, which are designed for bass guitar and sealed cabinets. With that cab, the AD200 sounded big and full, with lots of bass, but not much definition or mids/highs. Right after that, I sold the B40 with an old V4B, so I brought a SVT212 I had down there, after the B40/V4B was sold last week, but we didn't have rehearsal until tonight (usually it's Monday night). Pleasantly surprised. All the full bass is still there but I get the mids and some highs I wasn't hearing with the 4x10.

I am planning to get an OBC115, so I have a question for anyone that may have had the opportunity to use their AD200 with both of these cabs. Will that 115 project low mid, mid, and highs with definition and not be buried by massive low end? I'm making the assumption the OBC115 would be designed to sound good with the AD200, and running a single one will sound good as a full range cabinet.

@Ringhammer The OBC115 sounds great with the AD200B. It is balanced across bass, mids, and highs, but the voicing is different than the OBC410 or a 212.

Depending on the power you need, if you're going with Orange cabs, my personal recommendation for the AD200B is either a single 115, 2x115, or the 810. There's nothing wrong with the 410, but it's heavy. It's easier to lift 2x115s and they're more versatile because you can use one or both. If you need more power than 2x115, then just go for the 810! It's a beast, but at least it has castors (unlike the 410)! :cool:

Thanks for that info! I've already decided against the 410, just too heavy and I'm learning that, aside from a good old Ampeg 810e, sealed cabs aren't necessarily for me. The OBC115 is sounding more and more like what will do the job for me. As unbelievable as that sounds to me. 1 15" ….?

I used my AD200B tonight, playing in two different bands on the same stage. I had it plugged into a SVT212AV and it sounded pretty good, but with the second band, it got pretty loud and I feel I was pushing those 2 12"s pretty hard. Maybe the 115 is a good cabinet design with a great speaker, and that's where I'll get what I'm looking for?

Won't know until I try one.

Hm, honestly, if you weren't getting enough from the 212AV then I doubt the OBC115 will work in that setting either. I'd be looking at 2x115, or something else entirely.
