I got the chance to play AJ's new Vinny on Saturday. While there are non-Elrick basses that I'd like to get some time, like a Rob Allen Mouse, his new Vinny was the first non-Elrick that I've really, really wanted in a long time. As I said to AJ, I've played a lot of clean and clear basses (there were a bunch at that GTG alone), but none that I have played had the punch to go along with the clarity that that Vinny has. I've played quite a few Zons now (and owned one), and that one was my favorite yet.

Nice. Was this the first Vinny you have tried?

AJ, are the single coil "skinny" pickups more skinny than his regular offering? It looks that way from the pictures but i can't be sure.

I think it was the first Vinny I've tried, but honestly I don't remember for sure. I know I've been around a couple at various GTGs, but I don't think I picked one up.

Your bass is an interesting contrast to mine; one less string but 2 more frets! I like the black hardware and the integrated bridge and tailpiece is very nice.

I too usually play my TJ on gigs, but my VB4 rocked on Friday night. I had to lay off on my attack a little bit as the VB is so punchy, but once I had it under control, it sounded great!

I'm now considering ordering a VB5H.

Ok, you got me there... you're right.

All chops bustin' set aside, I really agree with you... the bass is SO much more than it started out to be as far as tonal range, and it really is (and always should have been) about being a musician... not "just" a bass player... or any specific instrument player, for that matter.
