My Fodera had the inlaid strap locks. Mike Tobias refused to do it for the aforementioned reason. I did have a dunlap strap lock fail on a gig when I had the Fodera. It was a pain in the ass

Not a lot of Mosaics out there.
Might've been me you were thinking of- I put two preamps into my Sonus 4 (two cavities). They aren't in parallel, but you can switch between them. There isn't space to do it in a regular bass until you have two cavities and a LOT of space for pots.
I'd recommend recording to A/B. Luckily, the East is a quick install (minus the two holes that need to be drilled).

My new bass should be done over the weekend, and ship next week. Coulda' had it at NAMM, but didn't want to deal with bringing it back with me on the plane, so rather than ship from the show, I'll just have him ship from the shop and have it waiting for me when I get back to *ugh* work.

Cool! I was really happy when Modulus added this option--glad to hear Zon is as well...
Yeah, they've been doing it for a really long time if you asked for it, but never publicized it much for some reason.
It took me a while to even find the option for it on the Legacy order specs but it's there. Hopefully I can put that to good use in the near future...
Ok, so yeah, I guess the best way to say it is they officially made it an advertised model/config as of last NAMM.
I didn't order my existing Sonus new, but had I, I probably would've asked, and if they had that as an option back in '03, I probably woulda' ordered it. HOWEVER... I must say, sometimes, having a 17mm fiver with that kind of sound is really nice. I do not plan to sell it once the new one is in my hands. Plus I got it from Adrian, so it has some sentimental value to me too.
So, I finally replaced the Bart preamp on my Sonus Custom with the East U-RETRO Deluxe five knobs.
I did it only yesterday and I must still test it on different amps but first impression is that the sound is extremely more natural than the plastic one of the Bart.
As Angus pointed out, it has enhanced the nature of the instrument (mine is not that snappy) adding the possibility to get some extreme tweaking (the parametric mids pot is amazing).
Never, for your amp sake, fully boost the basses without lowering the volume first.
More impressions about the pre in next days.
I'm a happy customer, and the luthier (who is a very unforgiving pro) complimented on the sound.
I did it only yesterday and I must still test it on different amps but first impression is that the sound is extremely more natural than the plastic one of the Bart.

Been spinning in my car stereo since then and gotta admit I really like it. I believe it`s a cool idea to have a single brand of basses represented by different approaches within a similar context (Xmas tunes, solo bass).
Since my chop fest devotion ended in my late teens, finding an album that recreates music instead of chops (and there`s plenty of them in the album, but in a very musical context) is very refreshing.
I truly like the different approaches from all the players involved and there`s no single tune I disliked. Having the description of what particular model each player used for the recording is a nice bonus.
