I posted the same question on this forum recently and I did not get an answer. It was owned at one time by Andy Brown. I would ask him. I also really like this bass but with two small provisos. One of the tone controls is very close to the edge of the bass. Consequently when it is placed on a stand there can be a conflict. Not a big deal I know, but .... Also, I would prefer the fingerboard to be tapered or at least cut-off at the 26th fret. Otherwise, this would be my perfect fretted bass.
I know I said I would not dwell on this (sorry Addison! et al.), but I am still waiting for my bass from Joe and the three year anniversary is quickly approaching. However, encouraging to read that people on this forum are getting instruments from the shop.

As much as I love Zon basses that's exactly why I've never had Joe build me one.. I just hear too many stories of 18-36 month builds.. I understand things happen from time to time, but it just seems to happen too much. Shame too, because I love the work they do..

After a lot of time, planning, deliberation, and selling instruments... I'm pleased to finally join the Zon Club!
A friend of mine in Saskatchewan needed some funds so he sold his long-time #1 bass to me, an older set-neck VB4. I've been pining for a decent bass to travel with, and my 5-string Fodera is amazing... but it takes a toll on my back and hands (dealing with tendinitis and tennis elbow from my double bass days). Now I'm super pumped to get back to the 4-string mentality more often.
The bass itself is quite different. My friend had done some interesting modifications to it: pulled out the preamp, set it up for passive electronics, moved both J pickups towards the bridge in the Music Man spot, added another humbucker where the P-bass position is, added series/parallel switches, and added a ramp to cover the empty space and top it all off. I'm happy with the mods and it's great to have a pickup in the MM spot.
I'll say that the sound is simply incredible and craftsmanship immaculate... I'm floored by Zon's graphite neck and the phenowood fingerboard - it seems they really know what they're doing there! And I know, no pics, no bass, so I'll post a few photos sometime over the weekend. I feel so lucky to have such great instruments; at one time I had around 7 instruments, and now I'm down to two that cover all the ground I need.

I'm sorry I don't know the story behind your bass other than did you sell and some point and now buying it back again other than that I just wanted to say glad your getting your bass back and the Koa on you Zon is KILLER!!!!
I have a zon lightwave I need to get pics of but this beauty will be available for sale shortly after I finish the electronics
