Official Zon Club Part 5

A friend let me use his Ampeg BXT410 HL4 (a 4-10 inch speaker cab) for the weekend .My Sonus 5-1 sounded real nice thru the cabinet and Mesa Big Block 750 . What speaker configurations are you using with your Zon basses and liking? The cab is a real heavy one to lug but sure has the heavy solid tone to boot.

I'm using an Aguilar DB750 and GS 412 or a GK MBFusion 800 with a pair of 212 NeoII cabs.
I also mix them up so I can get something between the smooth thickness of the Aggie gear and the bite of the GK.

I use a Mesa Fathom (M6 Carbine) and either an Aguilar GS412 or two GS112 cabs depending on the situation. Works for me.

Hello ZON brothers, I've been faithful to my 519 Sonus, since it's creation in 2008, however I never bought a Hard Shell Case for it. Because I'm playing more and more lately I'm considering buying a HSC, but the ZON one is 450$ which is crazy expensive for a HSC! Do any of you have any good recommendations on universal cases that work VERY WELL with your ZON SONUS 5?

You might consider a hybrid bag like the Mono M80. Lots of protection and easier to pack around when gigging.

definitely looking for something I trust others with, like say my girlfriend carrying my bass from one point to another. The other day she brought to me as I was packing up in the Garage and as she set it down I heard the strap button hit the concrete floor, needless to say I spent a couple hours re-anchoring the strap button. then trying not to hurt feelings as I explain metal hitting concrete = not good and painstaking process of re-anchoring...

I have a Zon Hardshell case . It is crazy expensive but it was the only builder that Joe felt built a good enough case for his basses. The case is very nice and well crafted. It also weighs a ton just so you know it's not a light case by any means , quite opposite. I think the gig bags that Zons come in are very nice and seem pretty protective . Your too nice to your girlfriend . If you spanked her and scolded her maybe she wouldn't drop your damn bass ! Next it will be down the stairs and you'll be trying to yank it out of a hole in the Sheetrock at the bottom of the stairs. If your 1500 $ bass head is with it you know she's pissed about something!

Ha ha, no it wasn't purposeful, mf GF is awesome, it was a non-musician moment. That’s why I’m looking for a HSC, it would be nice to have a case I could trust any person carrying, or band member for that matter. Currently I don’t let anyone touch my bass or move it, ever for this very reason…accidents happen. The $ 450 Zon case is just nuts. I don’t personally have any experience using universal HSC’s, like the GATOR Deluxe, or the SKB universal. I did look at the mono, one of my friends uses one for his tele, and I’m just not impressed, I already have a soft-case… IMO the mono brand is very overrated.

I use an InCase tour bag or DubBag for flying and don't give it a second thought. I've had more problems over the years with things tumbling out of hard cases or having them break due to being too rigid. I keep my hard cases for storage and bags for every day. I know InCase is out of the bass bag business, but they rock. Reunion Blues Continental is probably the most durable gig bag I've ever owned but the lack of pocket space is a drag for anything but a few cables.

btw anyone interested in a smoking Zon Classic 4 check out my add in the classifieds. I swapped out the original electronics (still have them) for dual coils with switching and a passive V/T V/T harness. This thing just kills but I'm in the market for a 5 till my custom Zon 5 is completed. I've got it up for trade, but if some is interest in a straight sale I can make that happen. Anyone interested can PM me and I'll dropbox a vid of sound samples.

Yes I was just throwing some humor in the mix since were all "business "on this board.
The price of the Hardshell case was a bit much for me also. Was thinking of scenarios on how to customize the inside of a good aftermarket case or building my own for half the price. Not sure how you would do that but it could be done somehow . I don't think there are much for options as far as manufactured cases that would fit the unique shape of the Sonus. Not sure how you would customize the inside of a case that you were satisfied with to then fit your bass? I gave up on the idea and bought the case. The only way I could come up with was to empty the bottom of the case , wrap the bass in thin protective wrap? Lay it in the case with under supports of some sort holding the bass in place?? And spray expand a foam around it ??? Hopefully the foam wouldn't eat thru the protective wrap ???? So I just bought a case .

I use the Mono Vertigo and I love it!!! My Sonus is a 4 string though...

If you find that the case fits good or find mods that worked well let us know and with pics . I had a hard time affording the case and the gloss upgrade. I didn't think gloss was usually considered an upgrade.
