Yup- spoke to them a few weeks back. It takes a lot to move a shop you have been in for two decades that has a lot of heavy machinery to a new place ~90 minutes away (in bay area traffic) and get it set up and ramp up production again. That is a nightmare.

Calling is best. You'll get them if you call at a few different times during the week.

Do most people order truss rods in zons these days? Can you specify how much relief you get if you go without? I’m jonesing for a zon again but the ones I had without truss rods all had too much relief in the neck for me.

He does seem to prefer a more "medium" relief. From what I remember when I ordered mine a couple of years ago the truss rod comes standard now.

Wow... I went through the whole ordering process, received my bass, and never even considered truss rod until now. Mine's a headless, and I don't see access for one, so unless it's completely hidden by the neck pocket I don't appear to have one. It's OK with me, the bass plays great, but I certainly understand the advantage.

All of Joe Zons basses have truss rods!
And they all have for quite some time!

The old necks, from long ago, that were made for Zon by Modulus Graphite do not have truss rods.

If it's a bolt-on it's most likely at the end of the neck. You have to remove it to see it. At least that's how it is on my Sonus Special.

Speaking of my not-so-new-anymore Zon, here's a recent gig pic:

Months later, still loving it -- all of it: playability, tone, look, craftsmanship. I use FX for rock, but the bass sounds great totally clean.

Couple more notes:
  • It's really nice to take the bass out of the case and find that it's perfectly in tune 98% of the time, regardless of temperature/humidity: combination of composite neck, and no tuning keys
  • I often play small/cramped stages, but I was especially grateful for the headless factor in a cramped basement rehearsal last week!
