I think the SR5 pickup looks better than the Smoothie pickup. It also feels great. I love the original SR5 pickup. Why did they change it??
That looks pretty cool. Maybe I'll buy an OLP 4 stringer and mod the crap out of it.
Yes the placement has that sound but it has that "faded attack" that gives it a nice Precision/Jazz hybrid.
I like the idea of a Caprice fiver with a SLO neck in ivory white. I'll bet that'd sound great. Esp. if you tort it.

This seems to be yet another odd move by the good folks at EBMM. I prefer them to make oddball designs that either *work* do *do not*. That takes courage. P's and PJ's, nice as they may be, are just more of the same. Why not make a J while you're at it, right?
Yah? A year old used model will lose half its retail value while decade old Stingrays still can go for over a grand? Good luck with that.
I am actually excited to try them out. My only complaint about my Stingray is at home. I leave bases out for practice and I always forget to unplug the MM. So it stay in the case, even though it is my favorite. I will consider one of these for the flatwound quiver. Doesn't meen much until they hit the shelves. I would definitely not preorder
I just love the BS that comes with new takes on old bass layouts....Modern Vintage Series....really? So what it sound like? Vintage or Modern? It's a bit like calling some one a Fascist Communist.
What I do like about this bass, particularly the "Caprice" is the design on the single coil Jazz pickup. Single large Pole pieces under each string (a la Music Man) and the screw lugs are placed at the end of the pickup. A far better idea and cleaner looking in my opinion and it saves you two screws per pickup. I've always favored the 3+1 MM head stock over the 4 in a line Fender design. I'm not too keen on the body shape, it can't decide if it's a Jazz, P or Music Man shape. Which, when I listen to the videos....it exactly what it sounds like, not quite a P, Jazz or MM....but a sort of blend between the three.

A P/J or P with a better neck than Fender? Hell yea, I'll take one.
I'm going to copy one of the pinned rules here at the top of the basses forum. This thread is 6 pages long, and there are several (now deleted) posts that violate this. Like Mama always said, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say nothing.
from here on out there will be no more ugly bass threads or posts tolerated in the bass forums, unless you are posting about your own instrument.
too many folks participate here with too diverse a set of instruments for these kinds of threads to end up doing anything but pissing people off.
interesting thing - the folks with experience, who gig and who are in general serious about bass usually don't waste their talkbass time posting about basses they don't own, talking about how they find someone else's instrument to be ugly. something to emulate, folks.
so if you want to talk about an ugly bass, make sure it's one of your own, or it will be deleted.
if you have a negative opinion about an instrument, be sure to tie it to something beyond the subjective appearance - "the body was uncomfortable for me to play" or "the neck was too round for me, felt like a baseball bat".
otherwise, if you find something ugly, say so if such an opinion is asked for, otherwise keep it to yourself. this isn't rocket science, guys. respect other folks' instruments.
