I get the irony. I tend to use what works best for me and clearly if I'm just into cheap gear I must've missed a meeting or two.

I've read multiple posts from people who complained about the PF overheating, shutting down on overloads and/or not powering on. Hence my suggestion that their quality is "suspect" and my decision to steer clear. If your experience has been different, feel free to voice your opinion and let people know.
Those reports were of the early versions of the PF500, and have long since been rectified. The PF800 came after the bugs were worked out of the 500's and have an excellent record.
The percentages of failures in the PF-500's were actually not very high considering it was the best selling bass amp in the country. Percentages were no different than other companies.
I had a PF500 that did the shutting down thing when running it loud through an Ampeg 8x10. It sounded decent enough when it worked
Was a GK fan/owner, am no longer.
Owned a PF 500, it didn't fail but not a fan (owned A B15 for decades) traded it for a Shuttle 6.0
My main is a Shuttlemax w/Shuttle, Glock and Carvin backups
I've played the Mesa a few times like it a lot.

And I got tried the D800 and kept my MBF800
These are three fairly different amps, into which I read:
"I want an 800 watt D class amp but I don't know what I want beyond that."
I'd highly recommend getting hands on experience with what you want to buy.

I've run my MBF500 on an 810 cab, and there was absolutely nothing wrong with that.I guess "if you have to have a physically large amp" then the whole D Class isn't for you
I voted for the GK MB800. I recently sold my Aguilar TH500 to get the GK MB800 because I felt that the TH500 was a little anemic. The MB800 just slams! Pure power and pushes my Berg NV610 and and my Ampeg SVT810E like it's nothing. Great tone too! I love it!
Well... I dropped the hammer and ordered the MESA D800 should be here Thursday !! Pics will follow !!

The GK MB Fusion 800 is my current amp. I LOVE IT! I have owned lots of other heads, and the only other amp that came close for me was the Aguilar TH500...but the GK wins for headroom and tone flexibility & features. I would go with the tube preamp...I think it really warms up the sound and you can still get a clean sound. I love the MB Fusion 800!!! If Aguilar comes out with something new I'd be interested, but for now the GK is the best one out there, at least for me.
I had a AMpeg PF500 also go on me. I'm a past Mesa owner, played the 400, 400+, but then back issues proved to be a huge issue with me..........I just got the D-800 Subway & the 15 cab and this thing rocks. Mesa is built in the USA, and the 5 yr warranty is huge. I regret buying the Ampeg PF800 right now. Mesa is the way to go in my opinion.
In my opinion the MESA is a no thrills amp. It nails the tone in the old school way. To me less knobs the better. I played my Nordy Vj4 thru this amp ( plus the 15" cab) and the house was shaking...........and I had the amp & master at 11 0'clock. I;'m really digging the MESA..............much more than the Am

not buying a class d head, because it cost way less to get five parts for my mesa d180 tube head
Has anyone tried the 12" Mesa Cab with the 15" cab? In the videos on line...........they stacked the cabs (15 x 2, 12 x2) but I didn't see a 15 on the bottom., and a 12 on top. The 15 cab is rated @ 400 W @ 8 ohms, and the 12 is rated @ 300 W @ 8 ohms.
