Ok you have $2,000 to spend...

I'll take a Fender Elite Jazz Bass in Champagne, please.

I'm cheap, but I will play...

$2,000.00 and it has to be spent on instrument(s) only. No amps, no accessories like straps or cables.

I would have to go to Rondo and build up a collection. I am certain I could get a deal on shipping when ordering in bulk...

The first three I already own so I guess they won't add to the total...
SX Ursa 1 RN 3TS $119.95 P-Bass no neck pickup.
SX Ursa 2 MN 5 3TS $169.95 J-Bass, 5 string.
SX Ursa 3 MN Alder 3TS $149.95 PJ Bass

SX Ursa 3 MN FL Alder 3TS $159.95 Fretless PJ Bass
SX Ursa 2 MN Alder 3TS $149.95 J bass
SX Ursa 2 HUM MN Alder 3TS. $179.95 J bass with a humbucker at the bridge.
SX Ursa 4 RN Alder 3TS $159.95 (Jaguar style J/J bass).
SX Ursa 4 PJ RN Alder 3TS $169.95

Woof!!!

I know for a fact that I'd be an idiot with a $2,000 bass at home - crazy paranoid of messing it up with a ding or a gouge. At a gig, I'd need to lock it away in a case between sets and chain it to the stage with a Kryptonite bike lock. There are reasons I very much enjoy my $350 Franken-Jazz beyond just the fit and sound it gives me.

I did try a used Kinal once at a shop many years ago and the thing felt and played like it was crafted from my own DNA. Nothing but WOW. I didn't have $1,400 handy to drop on it at the time - nor the ability to justify the buy, but that's another issue, right? If I see one in the near future either here or elsewhere, I may easily do something rash... so there's my vote.

I'd buy a Seminole Red Fender AV '63 Precision. I could kick myself for not getting one when they were readily available. I had picked one out at a local shop. Keep saving, saving, saving… Then one day, it was gone...and Fender had discontinued that color.

I'd get:
- A '90s Ibanez Soundgear. One of the nice Japanese ones that go for peanuts now.
- A late '90s/early 2000s Geddy Lee Jazz. One of the ones that still had the super skinny necks.
- Spend the rest on upgrading my rig (compressors, wireless units, other miscellaneous things - any combination of those odds and ends).

I'd go for a Warmoth parts bass, with Schaller hardware and either DiMarzio (if Jazz) or MAMA (if humbucker) pickups. A fretless roasted ash Jazzmaster with a wenge neck and macassar ebony fingerboard...

That, or check if it is enough for the custom Biarnel Akmè fretless that is among my dream collection, as the other 2 are outside the range (custom Wood&Tronics Chronos & 61' ash bodied Fender CS Jazz Bass with stacked tone/volume pots)
