Old Cab Rehab! Before/After photos

Thanks, I don't have a photo when I first got it but here it is after replacing the speaker baffle and before covering. Someone cut the center out to put a single 15 in. Severe hack job. Yes it has a large port but it wraps up the back inside and gets narrower. I am not sure what to call this type cabinet exactly. It works very well as does the single 15" bass version. I have both.
WOW those are both beautiful... so nicely done! Bravo!!! They look brand new, like untouched relics from the past that somehow traveled through time... Stunning!

I'll caution you however - don't make any mods to the ports or anything else or you'll incur the wrath of speaker gurus here (ask me how I know). Don't think I'll go that far with my little project but if I ever see something like that...who knows?

Thanks for the compliments and the cautions!! I wasn't brave enough to do anything to the ports other than paint them... but I'd love to check out some of your projects and see what creations you've come up with!

It's good artistic statement. It would look good in a room in the house.
If it's just for home and matched to the room decor then just ignore me.

IMHO I don't think the Amazon vinyl is going to hold up. It looks thin and I see puckering and bubbles and suspect seams.
Painted cones do change the mass of the driver and the motor wasn't designed for that new mass. The tuning of the cab should be adjusted for the new mass. Paint on domes may change the cooling of the drivers. And dust may show up more over time.

THE CAB: a beat up Genz Benz 6x10 that I got on CL for $100. It was in rough shape cosmetically, but sounds great and functions perfectly.
THE REHAB: a marble veneer, Wet Look speaker paint, black paint for the body, copper spray paint for the handles and the ports, copper screws for the speakers and grill, new metal corners, and to top it all off: a shiny new metal knob for the tweeter control on the back. All in all it was maybe $100 worth of materials (thank you Parts Express!) and quite a bit of painting, sanding, stripping glue, and watching the vision take shape!
While it's far from perfect, I had quite a bit of fun putting this together and I'm curious if anyone else has undergone any similar endeavors??? Anyways here's the images:

Yeah the veneer isn't perfect by any means, but as is the story for all of the elements of this cab, I expected far worse for my first attempt
The main idea thats meant to be reflected upon here (which takes new dimension in the year 2020) is that something neglected can be given new life without special tools, skills, or money... and of course it could be better, but if it looks good and sounds good, it is good!

I've since gone w/ an pf800 to drive the Ampeg cab. But decided to use the GK and add the blonde matching theme to my big rig.
OH MAN it just gets better and better! I love that blonde color... I totally appreciate the commitment to the look. And your basses are so beautiful as well. I really like the yellow one, with the worn down fingerboard.. I bet that thing has some stories!Thanks for the kind words.

That is a totally cool restoration. If it sounds good, it is good. It sure looks good. It sounds like you researched the speaker paint situation carefully and the results sound and look pleasing to you.
