I got a G-B 2x10 cab that I use. It sounds great but the outside covering has been scratched up by our cats. I should look into trying something like this.

That is a totally cool restoration. If it sounds good, it is good. It sure looks good. It sounds like you researched the speaker paint situation carefully and the results sound and look pleasing to you.

I still have one, (410).. It does and aside from that, the cab is so deep that it is incredible awkward to carry up stairs. I've done it on my own a number of times, but it's definitely easier with a friend.

I haven't weighed it, but it probably weighs more than I do! I should look it up... Thank goodness for casters!

Was that for sale in Salem MA? Good score. I never saw it on Craigslist. Those cabs have a ton of low end. At least my 410 does. Plus whatever was used for speakers and cab dimensions produces a lot of speaker excursion. I've not had an issue with mine, but my band used to get a kick out of how it moved the speakers. Oddly enough, I practice in Salem, or at least did. Oh yeah, and amazing job. I totally appreciate the whole new life, recycling thing.

The 4x10 I had was the best sounding cab I ever had. I just couldn't handle the weight so I sold it.

Thank you! The speaker paint was the thing I probably spent the largest chunk of time researching. I've been making paintings professionally for about 12 years so I have experience with almost every different paint/solvent/substrate/etc and the resulting effects. I used Wet Look, which is formulated for paper cones and paper surrounds. I think the speakers actually sound better (certainly more low end definition) after being painted, but the Wet Look dries fast so I made sure to have a system down before I started. There is a big community of people who repaint speakers in vintage boom boxes who have technical experience with different speakers and different paint combinations, so lots of my time was spent there, as well as the reviews on parts express website

Yep, speaker doping, it's a thing. It can make them sound more controlled, more refined less vintage.

The marble is from amazon, it's typical use is for a table top veneer, but some people do walls/backsplashes/etc. It's very inexpensive.. I think I spent about $20 on the roll

Yes I did! It wasn't difficult to remove.. it was basically falling off the cab. Removing the glue, however, was quite an ordeal. I ended up using a paint scraper and just going for it.

I've got an Old Aguilar GS 112 that I had thought about stripping the carpet off and doing something to it.
This may be the motivation
