Thank you so much for the comment and I'm glad you like the work. I think my favorite element of the whole endeavor is that its a great outlet for creativity and anyone can do it... like it's not too expensive and it doesn't really require any special skills... and the possibilities are endless
Haha yeah the sheer weight of the thing is kinda how I arrived at the marble aesthetic to begin with... my thoughts were like how can I play on that visual weight, how can I make it look literally sculptural in space? Of course! Marble!
This thread is inspirational. I was recently gifted a 60s era Fender Sportsman guitar head and cab. Thinking of restoring, but going to need help with the electronics parts. Ones in good condition regularly sell for above $1k. But don't know how much I'm going to have to sink into it to restore it. It's an adventure I can't wait to embark on.

I second the marble-ized rack case idea; seems like the marble veneer stuff would be hard to apply to any current amps due to fans, cooling vents and whatnot.
Or you could just build a head shell yourself and bolt in your pre and power amp of choice (or if you're a pedalboard guy, I guess you could just have your pre on the floor and put a power amp in the shell/rack case.

Wow, that looks fantastic. Congrats. I've done Tolex and Ozite (think that's what it was called, tight fur) but nothing like that. The "marble" gets bonus points for uniqueness. Well done.

If I showed up with that in my main church, they would freak out. Not because of the looks which is very nice, but because of the size. They'll have visions of being bombarded by low frequencies drowning out everything else.

So. In the spirit of giving a new life to something old, I did some rehab on an old cab. Some before and after photos are attached for your consideration and amusementIt's my first endeavor so there was lots of learning/character building experiences along the way...

THE CAB: a beat up Genz Benz 6x10 that I got on CL for $100. It was in rough shape cosmetically, but sounds great and functions perfectly.
THE REHAB: a marble veneer, Wet Look speaker paint, black paint for the body, copper spray paint for the handles and the ports, copper screws for the speakers and grill, new metal corners, and to top it all off: a shiny new metal knob for the tweeter control on the back. All in all it was maybe $100 worth of materials (thank you Parts Express!) and quite a bit of painting, sanding, stripping glue, and watching the vision take shape!
While it's far from perfect, I had quite a bit of fun putting this together and I'm curious if anyone else has undergone any similar endeavors??? Anyways here's the images:

I never knew there was such a thing as speaker paint.
Anyway, awesome job. Looks "rich"!! The marble look from the side and back is terrific. Very creative, especially with the copper handles and accents. Well done!

I rehabbed a Vox VR212 cabinet. It was in sad shape at first. Just need to put the diamond cloth on but haven't decided to go with original or newer replacement.

That marble veneer is a really cool idea. It makes the cab look like it would weigh 25,000 pounds so, no matter how heavy it actually is, you'll be fooled into think it's a very lightweight cab because marble shouldn't weigh so little!

I got a G-B 2x10 cab that I use. It sounds great but the outside covering has been scratched up by our cats. I should look into trying something like this.
