old "Let's buy a wish" thread

My mind is still kind of a blur. I don't know if I can fashion enough words into coherent sentences...

Just arrange these in any order:
buzzing string
router burn marks
fingerboard lifting
body wing seperating
Gouges
rough
bark
spalt where there should never be spalt
ergo'who'mics?

I'm sure others could offer some synonymous terminology...

Somebody said it needs a good setup...
My motto for this bass is;

"this bass was not designed to be set up. It was built to be set down."

I also experienced something with the Wish I've never had with any other bass before.
I have a condition (tactile dysfunction or something, my sister calls it) called 'haptodysphoria,' whereby certain textures are very offensive to my sense of touch. Kinda raises my hackles, gives me chills...that sort of thing. Like most people get when they hear fingernails on a chalkboard, well I get that from wooden spoons or certain utensils. It's a reaction to a certain 'rough wood' sensation.

I got it bad from the Wishy. I may actually be allergic to this bass. Or at least it's safe to say it offends more of my senses than your average player...

that said, I'm still going to try to record with it if it makes its way to Mobile. Maybe Adron can play it for me.

This may be the first bass you can literally say "its bark is worse than its bite..."

Weird thing is, it didn't sound that bad. Or did it?

ME play it?! I was nearly paralyzed with laughter at that bass! I didn't stop laughing at it the first 10 or 15 minutes I saw it!
With Bassmonkee playing it, the thing didn't actually sound too terribly bad. If the pickup was a little further from the "bridge" then the sound may have been a bit better.
People complain about the necks on Warwicks being a bit chunky...if you are one of those people, NEVER pick up a Wish! The neck on this one was MASSIVE!
All in all, I'm glad we didn't order a new one. That would be a rip-off of the TalkBass community. This one was actually supposed to be one of the "better" Wish basses...Oh those poor trees that gave thier lives for this monstrosity.

Having seen the Wishbass website, with it's rather homegrown appearing slant (i.e., Calvin and his staggeringly "personally designed" bass), it ocurs to me that standard ideas about presentaton, construction, finish, feel (sorry, Xush!), and even set-up may have to be set aside. The ability to "Empty one's cup", however, may not leave for much in the way of forgiveness for a lifting fingerboard! Gotta admit, it sounds dubious so far. Who will find the hidden talent in this funky bugger?

Rog.

Interesting, I get that from popsicle sticks. I have towrap the wrapper around them to enjoy one. Hmmmm. I guess this means I have to take 'buy a wishy' off of the bottem of the list of things I would do if I won the lotto.

Ok so what is going on with this bass...where is it being sent next? I hope it doesn't disappear like that instructional video...

I want to sign that apparent piece of junk.

I can't belive I missed this whole thing! I'm bummed that I wasn't able to donate in time, and therefore won't have it sent to me, but if B(d)SM doesn't mind, he only lives an hour or so away from me, maybe when he gets it I might be able to swing by and take a look?

Here's my contribution, though I still don't know where bethanybass or fuzzbass live (my God, I finally see where Bruce is comming from on this whole location thing!), nor any of the others that have donated since hambones last list:

Spankbass- where do you live exactly? We can totally set up something if you want to check it out. Maybe Adrian can drive it down to san diego and we can all hang out? ;) (notice I put the burden on Adrian:D).

What was that "d" you threw in my name there? :p

Ok, Ive driven to LA to visit the Roland factory and demo the V Bass prototype, I have driven to Anaheim for the NAMM show. Ive even driven back to LA to catch Jimmy Haslip, Alain Caron, Anthony Jackson or Marco Mendoza live at LaVeLee's , but drive to San Diego to deliver a Wish?... hmm, I gotta get back to you on that one.....;)

For some very strange reason, I am actually looking forward to this.

Should we set a time schedule as well, so as too not create any undue anticipation?

I can't imagine me wanting to wank around with it for more than a week, but there may be others that want longer.
