It's no secret to those on TB who know me that I'm a burst guy through and through. A classic sunburst with a tortoise shell pickguard is my gold standard for a bass. It has to feel right to me and it has to sound great to me as well, but it also has to be a burst. And, if it has a pickguard, it has to be a burst.

Contrary to what some on TB seem believe, I do NOT believe that all basses must be burst. I just like them and it's what I buy for myself. I also drool over lots of other cool looking basses, especially those owned by other TB'ers, including some already posted in this thread.

So, yeah, all of my basses are bursts. And, at least technically, none are actually Fenders, though all but one are Fender designed or FSO's, inspired by the likes of this:

... and the oddball, my Ibanez ABG-205 short scale semihollow. Not an FSO or designed by Leo Fender, but it is a burst (Violin Burst, according to Ibanez)

I’ve long had a thing for white basses but have only ever owned one (not counting a white ash bass which I still own): a fretless StingRay. I’d still like an all white Jazz (fretboard included) à la Larry Graham.

Rhonda Smith played a white Lakland like this minus the blocks . Always catches my eye.

I think that was a Prince thing, was it not? Prince seemed to go through a phase of all white guitars/basses (while he was playing Warwick Thumbs) - and Rhonda started playing with him around that time.

I’ve always loved the looks of all white basses. Not Olympic white, which is nice , but that bright whiter than white shade.
I also happen to love StingRay5’s,
and a sparkle finish is just icing on the cake.


I’ve often considered purchasing one of these models but always knew deep down that they weren’t quite right for me. I find them to be some of the most eye catching basses I’ve ever seen.

With Ernie Ball releasing their Fall 2022 BFR models . I took a chance that this would be that perfect white sparkle StingRay5 that I’ve always wanted. And I was right.

I do like white basses. OK... here's mine, and I have to say: it's like really, really white. Plus, it still works, yea, even with an ancient 486 pc in its innards. I ought to sell it. my kids won't know what to do with it. What was I thinking?
