ORANGE BASS TERROR: The Review!

So with the upcoming TB500/2x12 isobaric combo coming near the end of the year...

1) What is everyones thoughts on the combo verses the TB500 head with a 2x10 iso and 2x12 iso like one of the pics a few pages back on this thread?

2) Also..out of curiosity, I'm an engineer by trade but have a huge passion for jaming and writing so tone is my absolute biggest interest over power since I'm not in a band...would the AD200 be a better overall choice if it were tone that I seek?

My personal thoughts on the combo vs. the TB500 head/iso cab thing is this: a wonderful little amp, I dearly love mine, but when it comes to a cab, you can do better in terms of weight/volume/tone/price (pick any one, possibly two, maybe even three) than the iso... well-matched in character to the TB500 though they are.

I use a Barefaced Midget 1x12 cab: certainly louder than the 210 iso, a better tone for me personally, far far far lighter, slightly more expensive.

If you buy into the iso thing then the TB500C might be a contender. If not, not!

No doubt the barefaced would be louder and lighter. Im pretty sure the iso thing is an old design that is a bit uncalled for with the advances in speaker drivers that are being made today... In reference to the extended lows and all that jazz....

Orange does tend to go for that vintage thing.. So it could just be the tone they went for.

Well, since I've not played the BT500 much, & only having played the AD200 a couple of times (& a while ago) I'm sure others on here will serve you better.
But, imo, if it's the absolute TONE you're after, I, for one, would definitely go for the all tube route. I don't think, as close & as great sounding these new class D amps are to all tube beasts, they don't QUITE get the 'cigar' so to speak.

If I had a choice (if my back wasn't STUFFED, & there were plenty of Orange AD200's about locally etc...) there'd be no choice.
I'd go the AD200 over the BT500 every time.
As I said, I've limited experience with both these amps & I dunno if the BT500 gets much louder than the AD200, but, for me, all tube 'girth' beats the 'different' type of vol. of S.S. amps,
& class D amps, to me, have a 'tube-ier' feel to 'em than trad S.S. amps.

Sorry for the convoluted post, but I hope you can 'catch my drift'.

Thats my current rig-
Haven't got to play with it much but I love what I hear so far-
Tons of headroom-actually can be quite clean!-
Very usable gain overdrive-
Very simple controls, thats what makes me pick this over my Mesa 400+-I got tired of knob fiddlin'-
No, not the same feel as all-tube, but pretty darn close as far as tone goes-
I love the way it looks on the 8'10''-I think its the only "micro" head that doesn't look silly atop a fridge!

Anyone play Reggae..? What's your opinions on this head for some roots style reggae. I don't mind a little dirt regularly, love the look and also would like a head that can do Indie Rock to Jazz to Reggae (which is pretty much the mix of bands for myself lately)...
I am terrible with tone but know generally what I like when I play it (hard to do with these thangs)...

I would use it for reggae (I dont own one, yet, but I play reggae, and blues, rock, finger funk) its got a nice warmth that I've never gotten from an all SS amp. I found it pretty easy to get nice tones out of it (I dont slap, so I dont know if it would be ideal for that)

Resurrecting an old thread but I figure why not.

I bought a TB 500 several days ago and I liked it just fine in my home studio but I gigged it tonight for the first time and oh my is this thing ever incredible live! By far the best I've sounded live...by far! I heard every note I played....everything cut through the mix perfectly. My bandmates were blown away by my tone and thats the happiest I've been with my sound in a long long time.

I've got rehearsal with a different band tomorrow and can't want to crank the TB 500 in the studio tomorrow.

Last night I played it through a Line 6 Lowdown 4x10. Today in rehearsal with a different band I played it through a Hartke 4x10. Later in the week with yet another band I'll be playing it through an Ampeg 8x10. The Line 6 4x10 sounded better than the Hartke to my ears but I'll be picking up an OBC410 to go with this head.

Had my Terror Bass for just a few days under two years now - great little head.
At low volumes you can get pretty much any tone out of it your could desire, of course once you start pushing it goes into overdrive easily.
I've mainly used the head for Worship duties with an Acme Low B2. Big fat warmth for modern Worship.
Rock gigs I like to use it with my Thunderfunk 750 and 3 - 4 Aggie GS112's. The TFunk always pushes at least 2 aggies for the relatively clean fatness that it is known for, while the 500 pushed into overdrive with the other 1 or 2 aggies. Not only do I have ridiculous power on tap, I don't need any pedals for fuzz.
One of these days I need to role the tubes, I'd like to see the head stay clean longer - any suggestions (other than use a damp cloth)?

For those of us that are STILL looking for a louder WA (or lighter SVT) for clean, warm, full range, 3D soundstage, is the TB a possible alternative?
Am interested in a 1 cab (2x12) with a lightweight head for rock and R&B.
I'm thinking that this is not the answer as you haven't been been raving about them.

The voicing is pretty different, but I can see many - but not all - fans of the WalkAbout tone also finding much to like about the Terror Bass 500/1000. I just used the TB 500 at practice last night pushing two Baer ML-112's, and it was glorious! :bassist: :bassist: :bassist: :cool:

Can you decribe different in what way?
I'm in the UK right now and plan on stopping by some shops next week although so far it appears most things British cost more here!
Since the Chef has gone over to the dark side (meaning all SS) I'm not so sure he loves tubes amymore. Hopfully the pile of used but original Mullards, Amperex, Telefunken, Sylvania, GE, RCA, National, etc. 12AX7's I sent will lure him back!
