Orange Terror Bass 500 V2 and OBC 112

Hi everyone, I have some questions about this head and cab...
I'd like some opinions from who's have it.
I know that the d.i. it has problems of volume, in the v2 did they fix it?
The obc112 has no tweeter/horn, it sound too dark?
Is it manageable even at low volumes? like for practice at home
Anyone using it with a 5 strings?

I have read the DI problem was fixed on the Mk2. Also there was a fairly simple mod to pad down the DI on the Mk1.

Regarding the tone of the cab...that's a subjective question...so it's up to you to decide if the tone is too dark, or just right. If you like tweeters, get a different cab.

Manageable at low volume. The amp has a master volume...use it. No sure how loud the fan is. The Mk2 has a temperature controlled fan, so it does not run until the amp warms up. So it may not even turn on if you keep the volume down. Whether the fan will bother you depends you level of OCD. I play vintage SVTs in my basement, and they rather obnoxious fans. It's normal operation for these amps so it doesn't bother me.

I own the latest version of the Terror Bass but not the Orange can you asked about. I’ve played it out and at home and have never tripped the fan. As for the DI, I’ve had no volume difference issues either. It sounds pretty good through the DI actually.

BTW, it uses a Fender tone stack and if you leave the tone controls at noon it’s pretty dark. Drop the lows and crank the mids for a tone that’s really useable, and if you like some grind, flip the toggle from clean.

Finally, I run it through a 115 cab at home and can get a nice, comfortable volume that doesn’t drive my wife crazy. As was said, you can push your gain and keep the master within reason.

Overall, it’s a great amp head and worthy of an audition. Good hunting!

They are very similar internally. The biggest measure of how "dark" or "bright" an amp will be is probably the speaker/cab you are using it with. The Terror has lots of potential trebles/highs on tap, so it's just a matter of finding a cab that offers what you want.

I personally find the Terror to be plenty bright on its own, without the need for tweeters or horns in a cabinet. But that's just me, everyone is looking for different sounds.

This.
I have the TB500C, which is the combo version of the TB500. Crank the Mids, cut the Bass and it is plenty bright.

I have the same setup at the moment, I assume by now you've made a decision but throwing my two cents in just in case it's helpful to someone googling around. I haven't noticed a problem with the DI but I've only used that when making rough demos, I wouldn't DI bass live either way. I initially *did* feel like the 112 is too dark and not enough lowend but honestly i play wiht a deluxe bass muff now and it really boosts the highs/mid-highs in a way where I feel good about it. I play in a pretty heavy trio and can handle covering for the lack of a rhythm guitarist during solos by playing chords this way and it sounds awesome. I am considering a second 112 or a 115 for shows, though.
