Ordering from BassStrings Online? Maybe just me but...

...or think I'm out of line with my communication expectations?

Sadly, your experience has become more the norm than the exception with many businesses these days. My rule of thumb with most businesses is this... before you purchase from them, call them up. If you get an automated message and/or simply can't reach a human to speak with, buy elsewhere.

I've used BSO a couple of times (I rarely need to change strings :) ) and communication has been excellent, as have pricing and delivery times.
Only issue I ever had was completely my fault in managing to ignore a warning about out-of-stock strings and yet ordering them anyway.
Even with that, Jason actually contacted me here on TB to clarify the issue.
I'm a very satisfied customer, and will remain so.

Based on my experiences, and seemingly most others here, yours was an isolated issue. I recently ordered some of the new Sadowsky flats and the D string on the initial set was dead out of the pack. Even though Sadowsky had no individual strings, Jason sent me a whole new set at no charge. I can't say enough good things about my experiences there. I wouldn't let your recent experience deter from using them again.

I have been buying my strings off of ebay. What has been my experiences?

1.best prices from multiple venders.
2.no tax
3. very fast delivery
4. I get exactly the strings I ordered.

If there is an advantage to buying elsewhere, let me know what is is.

I am a new BSO customer, so I hardly have a dog in this fight, but your comment was so carelessly antagonistic I thought I might reply, in case you were really asking an honest question, despite having a thread right here chock full of the "advantages" of BSO...

From BSO, I get:

1. prices that are the same and often lower than the absolute cheapest price I can find anywhere, ESPECIALLY including eBay...
2. no tax. (And if you do, that's hardly the fault of BSO. Fire your congressman...)
3. very fast delivery. I usually get my order within a few days--Amazon prime fast. No one on eBay even comes close.
4. personal service, so that when I am not sure what I need to order, he makes sure I get what I *need*, not just what I might've ordered from an anonymous eBay vendor.
5. selection that rivals the rest of the entire internet, put together! True example? he is the ONLY place that stocks shortscale Black Beauties. This is literally a product that DOES NOT EXIST from DR--he orders them special! And does he charge more for 'em? Nope. Just another way of providing a real service to his fellow bassists.
6. good feeling of knowing I am supporting someone who is supporting bassists, and not in it purely to make a buck.
7. Evidently, we all get a TB discount, so that definitely goes on this list, now that I know about it!

So, if there is an advantage to buying from anywhere OTHER than BSO, please let me know what it is. Because you didn't provide even a single reason, as far as I can see... :)

never had any issues/problems with ... BSO , Just Strings , BestBassGear ...

if you've ever worked in a music store , you'd better understand ' inventory issues ' ...

i'm in the camp of ... ' stuff happens ' ... and i'm thankful we have the choices we do for strings ... and i'm thankful i don't have to drive an hour to the nearest music store , only to come home empty handed .. !

but i do agree that good communication is very important .. !!

I order a lot of single strings (I like balanced sets, so most of the time I'm doing it one string at a time). I typically experience long delivery times when I order SIT strings (in excess of quoted times on the website). But I always get them - just not as fast as advertised. It'd be great if Jason updated his time estimates (I think it'd help his reputation to do that), but at this point, I've just decided to order things in advance of when I need them, and not worry about a few weeks delivery time.

My order has been in for 3 weeks without a shipping notification - then again maybe it's on me for not caring enough to contact Jason, seeing as I won't play much if at all in the next couple weeks and haven't for the past couple either. I'll send him an email eventually, if I remember to! :D
