Ordering from BassStrings Online? Maybe just me but...

The last two times I have bought strings, replacement strings or accessories, I have ordered them from Bass Strings Online. I never even mentioned during the ordering process that I was a TBer and I still got a crazy fast turnaround time and shipment and great service. Both times I received an order confirmation. I only wish I needed to order more and more often so I could contribute my part in supporting.

ive had the same experiences.. was waiting for strings to come for a about a week so I called to follow up but found out they were out of stock. but still Jason Took care of me
and rushed my replacement strings. they are not perfect and make mistakes but they do make it up to you and try to make it right.

Perhaps I'm only an isolated instance with ordering from BassStrings Online...

I expect that this is not the norm for them and did reply to their email saying that I was appreciative of what they are doing now and Jason has responded while I've been ranting here so I definitely feel a lot more comfortable. But, just call it my need for a hug or a warning.

You're not an isolated case. I've been ordering from BSO since 2011, and there have been some hiccups with orders.

However, what's highlighted above is the reason I continue to place orders. I never realized such a high level of customer service could exist for something as pedestrian as bass strings until I ordered from Jason.

I hope you give you them another chance.

I understand what you mean. The thing you have to remember is that La Bella does a lot of custom order stuff.

For example, I ordered a set of La Bella White Nylon Copper Tapewounds 45-105 regular long scale on July 9. I just got the "Order Shupped" email yesterday. I expected a bit of a wait based on the experiences of others here.

Just how it goes. Jason is a great resource for us here and I appreciate his service.

Love BSO. I order all my strings from them. If it's a larger order I'll call Jason and do it over the phone like I just did for my Darkglass Vintage Ultra. I usually receive the items one or two days after I place my order because I'm also in SoCal. The discount doesn't hurt either!

I can't count how many orders I've placed with BSO. Anytime I've had to wait for strings, it was always from one of two string particular string companies. Everything else Jason always gets out right away, 2 days cross country to my door. So the issue seems to be with these two particular string makers themselves. In fact I ordered a set from one of those makers yesterday and I'm prepared to wait as I don't need them right away. If you just look at what all the delayed orders have in common you can pretty much figure out what companies they are :)

It happens sooner or later - no matter which company it is.

To me, the mark of a good company isn't that they're always perfect. It's how well they handle a customer's problem when it's brought to their attention.

I've had a very positive experience with BSO such that I order all my strings through them. And the only time I had an issue (defective G string in a set I ordered, from them) they got it promptly and efficiently resolved. All I had asked was whether I should go directly to Rotosound or them to talk about getting a replacement string. BSO handled the entire customer service bit for me. I received a replacement for the entire set. Something I would have never expected nor even asked for.

Marvelous company. Highly recommended.

I have been buying my strings off of ebay. What has been my experiences?

1.best prices from multiple venders.
2.no tax
3. very fast delivery
4. I get exactly the strings I ordered.

If there is an advantage to buying elsewhere, let me know what is is.

Better prices.
Personalized service.
Custom string sets/guages available.
Support the TB community.
Support the small businessman.
No chance of counterfeit strings.
Strings are factory fresh, and have not been sitting around in some warehouse for who knows how long.

All from www.bassstringsonline.com

Last time I ordered I ordered low E string for a bass VI. I got an email saying it was out of stock. I tried to cancel the order online and was unable to do so. About two months later it arrived in the mail; but I had already sold the bass VI it went on.

Granted, I never called them; and I probably could have had my order cancelled if I had.

Perhaps I'm only an isolated instance with ordering from BassStrings Online and maybe you players can chip in and let me know about your experience's. That being said;

I ordered two sets of strings 11 business days ago and never got a 'has shipped email' or anything that might indicate a delay or not in stock or actually any contact other my billing email. Sent them an email today and they said that they were out of stock on the one set ( 4-string, mid-scale, La Bella Original 1954 Fender's) and that they would ship a 5-string set of those tomorrow, which I am appreciative of. The other set I ordered was shipped out today (4 String Set, medium scale, La Bella Deep Talkin' Round Wound Bass Strings).

OK, I get that these are Medium Scale sets and not the kind that may not be sitting on the shelf waiting to be sold. But at some point I would think that if there was going to be a delay, shouldn't I have been told something? I might have changed to a different set or just been fine to wait - but at least I'd have known even if wasn't possible to make a change.

If they wanted to wait to make one shipment with both sets instead of two separate one's would be understandable if they were paying for the shipping but I'm paying the shipping so IMHO you ship what you have. And again I would expect some kind of notice.

So I guess first of all, has anyone else had any issues with them or think I'm out of line with my communication expectations? They have a professional website with lots of good info and great pricing. However, it would affect my decision as far as being a continuing customer if this seems to be typical.

I expect that this is not the norm for them and did reply to their email saying that I was appreciative of what they are doing now and Jason has responded while I've been ranting here so I definitely feel a lot more comfortable. But, just call it my need for a hug or a warning.

I had exactly the same problem with my Medium Scale Deep Bass Strings. When contacted the staff were great, however its their ordering system which did not clearly state that they did not have my product in stock.

We do not have single Bass VI strings listed on the website except for High C flatwound La Bella bass VI and it is only able to be found from a search.

Reply to any order email with a question. Any request for a cancellation is done with no questions asked.

Are you sure it was from us?

I just recall the situation that happened about 2 years ago. I had just purchased a 12 string bass Jason did not have pre-packaged sets at the time.
We spent about a half an hour discussing the ins and outs. He selected a number of strings to assemble a custom set by hand while I'm standing there taking his precious time.
Did he charge me extra? no...Did he rush me out the door no.
We sat and discussed his pending move to a new location, the expansion of his business, very friendly and open; it's like I was hanging with a friend at a bar rather than being a customer who is only handing him less than $100.
He took two hours of his day to make in profit, potentially 20 bucks off of me
I mean I was floored.
Jason you are the man

I will only order strings from BSO. I experienced an issue with one of the strings in a prepackage set and emailed Jason. He responded right away letting me know that he was sending a replacement string no question asked. IMO I get better customer service from him then when I used to shop as the local big box store. Jason made me fell like I was family vice just another dollar.

...And yet you went ahead and posted the rant?

Have you ever stopped to think about what it might be like to run a small business like his? Trying to keep hundreds of products in stock from several dozen different manufacturers and fill, pack and ship god knows how many orders a day, communicate with all those customers and try to handle backorders for those products that have sold out? I'm not sure if he has an employee or two to help him, but if he does that brings a whole new wrinkle of complication into things.

Give people a break and go find something real to rant and rave about. Believe it or not there are actual problems in the world. People are dying of starvation, being murdered in wars, suffering from painful diseases, etc... If those things aren't happeining to you, take a moment to appreciate how good you actually have it. Then think about your bass string order and your post.

As Russian former-NHL goaltender once said, "y u hafta be mad? it's only [strings]. y u mad?"

Do you need a Snickers bar, dude? xD
