Ordering from BassStrings Online? Maybe just me but...

I've been shopping for strings exclusively with BSO since 2011 (I think that's when Jason was just starting out but I could be wrong.....)

I'll never buy anywhere else. Why?

I'm definitely no big name player but I get treated like one (and it seems like everyone else does, too) when shopping at BSO..

Honestly, where else can you buy single strings and make custom sets of whatever you want; even some of the most obscure things. Basically, if he can get it from the manufacturer, Jason will get it to you. This was my initial attraction to BSO and continues to be a favorite feature for me.

I am currently living in Japan. When I order, Jason makes sure that I get my order sent promptly and he goes out of his way to find the most economical shipping rates for me. When I was back in NYC, my orders came cross country FAST and free shipping. What's not to love about that?

Finally, we are supporting a small business. I'm far from being even middle class, let alone well off. What little money I've got will go to supporting a business like Jason has, not bull$%&t corporates like GC and Sam Ash.

So it would seem that perhaps a better system to let people know when their order is awaiting shipment when back-ordered from the manufacturer etc. would be something BSO can work on, I am sure he's eager to do it. It will probably make his life a bit easier too when that is somehow automated or something. Businesses grow and develop in response to experience. This actually kind of works as focus group feedback, lol. As-is, his business practices and customer service are the best I have personally found, even if, as a a very few have observed, it's not perfect 100% of the time (we all expect perfection, from other people mostly). He's earned my loyalty. Refinements are part of the process.

There was a time that no stock status was listed on the website and I was contacting people more quickly about our of stock items. I was able to do that as I was not maintaining the online inventory database. It is mostly all automated but I need to tell it that the products are in stock... So until I receive the inventory it will not show as "in stock" even though it may be sitting in the back already checked in. The time getting this info up to date and accurate takes away from notifying things are not in stock as the website pretty much does it already. There are a few instances where the inventory count is off and this is not accurate and I am fixing those as they come up. Overall the stock status is accurate. I always work to get product here as soon as possible if it isn't in stock noted or not.

Preaching to the choir here, but yeah, I know you're on it. No worries with me.

Hello Everyone!

I just wanted to take a moment and thank all of you for the kind words and support! I can not express how much reading these posts today means to me. Threads like this remind me of a few different things... Why I started BassStringsOnline, why I continue to run BassStringsOnline, and why I need to keep working to improve BassStringsOnline.

Thank you all so much again!

My communication lines are always open... Please do not hesitate to Email, Text, Phone, Facebook, etc...

Thank you all again! I look forward to supporting you all through your bass playing journeys where ever they may lead you!

Jason Mendelson
Owner/Operator BassStringsOnline

PS: It was mentioned earlier but for those who do not know, BassStringsOnline is a small business. Myself doing all the online sales / phone sales / product knowledge / order management / etc... and even pulling and shipping orders / receiving inventory.

Julian and Don handle the daily Shipping and Receiving side of things... Pulling / Packing / Shipping orders.

Lara my amazing fiancé has been helping me out with a site redesign and some graphic design.

Thank you again!

My experiences with Jason and my Multiple Orders from Bass Strings Online has been in the same tier as the ordering of my "40th Birthday Bass" from Mike Lull, he who answered all my *numerous* questions over *numerous* phone calls regarding various options and what he would recommend regarding my Bass given what I was looking to get from this Bass, them spent 20 minutes of his extremely valuable time to discuss "The State Of The Bass" aka what directions the recent orders to him have been in (i.e. what models were selling as opposed to the ones that weren't, and even non-bass talk as to Beer Recomendations!, Spector, working on a Custom Fretless Bass (which has been my *Main* Fretless since arriving) and the possibility of getting a Custom 1-off of a no-longer-made model built from their European Factory and priced accordingly as opposed to a "full-on" USA Custom Bass) and D'Addario: specifically that a particular set of "Half-Round" Strings that fit initially into my Bridge but whose B-string at this gauge was too wide to make "the bend" upward enough to pass over the Saddle. Within a "2-3 Day Priority" Mailer I received 3 "Super Long Scale" Taperwound B-strings of varying gauges which therefore had less mass and width to make it up-and-over the saddle - the string gauge I'd originally purchased with the Taperwound ball-end was now slim enough to fit in-and-over the Bridge saddle and all was good. A few days after that I received a much larger "Envelope o' Swag", more than a few 4 and 5-string sets of "Pro Steel" strings, which I mentioned are and have been my favorite and main strings used since before they were named as such and were known as "Prisms", a T-Shirt, and some of their Planet Waves-branded gear such as their Bass String Winder & Clipper and other Bass Accessories. So it's in Very High Company that I place Jason and BSO's Products & especially his Customer Service.

Firstly & most importantly, Jason was Instrumental (my puns *always* intended ;)) as to working out what single strings and tensions I should use to build my Custom "Balanced Tension" 5-string Set, and then since we had worked out the set based on my 35"-scale 5-string (my "Main Player", the Bass I'd grab if I had only 15 minutes notice for a Studio Session or Live Gig ), I had realized that my four-strings had felt a bit "Loosey Goosey and only after far too long realized that I was using the EADG that were designed to work optimally on a 35"-scale Bass. Luckily, Jason was able to figure out the changes in gauges needed for my 4s and now they're using the correct "Balanced Tension" for 34"-scale Basses, playing far better and just as nice as my 5-strings.

...and as for the rare times that some of my Singles have not been stock (due to my Balanced Tension Guages, my A & D-strings are not common in Super Long Scale-length), I've always received a prompt e-mail from Jason also asking me if I would like a One delayed or Multiple separate shipments.

For all the above reasons as well as others I'm sure are lurking inside my medicated head, Jason & BSO will be my String Supplier while I'm a Bass Player and they're in buisness. :D

I'm in the good experience camp. I ordered some hipshot tuners and asked for a special bushing to fit a Mighty Mite neck. He custom ordered them for me and no extra charge and I was very pleased with what I received. The inventory is a little limited for now but I will use them for any purchase that I can.

Sorry ladies and gentleman that I haven't gotten to all your posts but am appreciative all the input and I will get to them. I did talk Jason pretty much right after I started the post. We're good - he's happy to have another satisfied customer and I'm happy to have a vendor who prides themselves on establishing a high level of service. He didn't have to call or call that soon or take as much time he did - it's all impressive. And I'm sure he's pleased with the customer base here that are supporting him.

Gotta run - might be a couple of days before I can check back in.

I just ordered from Jason for the first time. What drawn me to his site was the ability to custom build your set of strings. When I placed my order, I received an email right away confirming my order. Shortly after I received an email that my strings were shipping. I received my strings in a few days! Excellent service.

Jason also emailed me and provided me with a partial refund for being a TB member, even though I told him it wasn't necessary. That is incredible service!

Jason, you have a customer for life now. I still can't believe all the years I've been on TB, and all of the posts I have done, that I never heard about your website. Well I'm glad I know about it now. :bassist:

They do charge a lot for shipping - agreed. But I've never had any problem with delivery times - they send by USPS by default and I'm close to them - if you're on the West Coast, it could take a while.

Just to clarify, we're NOT talking about Bass Strings Online charging a lot for shipping. We're talking about another string site. I prefer Bass Strings Online's free and faster shipping :)
