yeah, I loved it too!
on mine, I added larger input and output coupling caps for more low end. they're in plugin sockets so I have the option of running it stock too.
....and added a pre-gain control so I have more control of the fuzz at low fuzz settings, which is like turning down the volume control on my bass going into it.

Wondering if the Aguilar Tone Hammer Pre/DI can be modded...? The pre itself sounds pretty great, but the 'AGS' overdrive part is just worthless!

I have no idea since I've never looked inside of one,
but if they're using SMD components, i'd forget about modding one.

"If you haven't already tried it, there is a common mod with the GV-2 that I learned about here in TB that opens up the high end and makes it a much better pedal in my experience (it is very muffled sounding stock)- just remove capacitor c22!"
Can you tell me if this is true? And if so, is the cap I'd have to remove clearly marked?? Thanks for your time.

Here's the schematic for the GV-1 that talks about the mod as well:

If you google pics of the GV-2 circuit board you'll see that the components are labeled on the board. Before removing it I'd try to find sound samples before and after the mod for reference. You could also have someone put a switch to allow you to remove C22 or keep it stock.

I find it funny that you say that. The AGS is just another word for "Sansamp". It's basically their version of a Bass driver and I much prefer that to the plain eq. They should have never made it foot-switchable though. It just confuses people.

Gotcha...thanks, brother! Still not sure I'd know what I'm looking at if I do get around to cracking it open...I just find the AGS kinda worthless sounding...only works at all for me if the gain is barely on at all.
Then again, I'm getting a demo/proto model JGR to play around with tomorrow, so my mind will be on other things soon enough
And inevitably you'll also come across SMT = Surface Mount Technology. Typically they're tiny rectangular 'chips' soldered directly to metal pads on the board instead of using leads that pass through holes in the board and are soldered on the opposite side. Generally impossible to work with using a hobbyist level setup.

I just finished another one, the ROG Umble. this one's designed to emulate a Dumble amp. it can go from a transparent clean boost to super heavily overdriven and it sounds pretty darn good with a bass too.

a couple more recent builds. A BJFE Arctic White Fuzz and Boss Blues Driver modded for bass, with more gain, plus the Brain Wampler mods. I also replaced the chip in it with a stacked NE5534 to remove the fizzy decay that these pedals are known for. it sounds awesome now.
the Arctic White is more of as vintage sounding fuzz (two transistors and I added more low end to mine, but they do sound nice stock.
