overdrive/fuzz quest part 2

just finished boxing up another Fulltone clone, the Soul-Bender. three germanium PNP transistors and it sounds great. with the tone knob (fully CW has the most bass on this one) there's no low end loss and it's a balls out fuzztone. I also added an internal voltage inverter since this one runs on -9V.

Beautiful build. How many have you done currently?
I can't think of anybody who has ever built that many clones.

I have an original GK Diesel Dawg and despite the massive foot print the tone of this pedal is epic. It sounds to my ear like an aggressive grindy tube screamer with more sizzle on the top. Does the circuit resemble a tube screamer?

thanks. I've built about 200 Fuzz/OD's, and 35-40 various others like comps, envelopes, phasers, choruses, delays and octavers.

not really. I don't see a resemblance to a TS at all.

Would you list a list of current favorites with the reasons for them being favorites?
I'd be very interested in that !

Specifically...which pedal(s) would you recommend to someone looking for a very dynamic and open sounding OD with no bottom loss but equally open upper range?

Thanks very much for this thread, johnk, it's an extremely useful resource.

I was curious about the Orange preamp pedal you built- is it more like a vintage, or a modern Orange? I would love to have a pedal that emulates the sound of an old Orange or Matamp head pushed into overdrive.

I use a Way Huge Green Rhino. I love it. I've also been dying to get my hands on a Fuzzrocious Demon and a Loud Button Balls Deep.

of course all OD/distortion/fuzzes are very subjective, but IMO, the SA very nice pedal. it's 10X more analog/organic sounding and touch responsive/dynamic than their other bass distortion pedals (I also have their multiwave pro and the soundblox2 multiwave distortion). for me, it's actually hard to get a bad sound out of it.
