overdrive/fuzz quest part 2

just finished building Runoffgroove's Britannia (Vox AC30 emulator) it does lose some low end with a bass, but that was to be expected being that it sounds like playing a bass thru a Vox AC30. regardless, it's a great, dynamic pedal. I etched a pcb and the enclosure for this one.

The Brown Dog was a mainstay on my funk pedalboard for years. With an octave pedal and an envelope filter (ideally a LPF) you get some really synthy tones.

There are better pedals for aggressive or smooth fuzz but the Brown Dog was my favorite for synthy fuzz sounds.

From what little I could tell the BD has a silicon chip but also appeared to use LEDs for some of the clipping. So what's really going on under the hood?

Really nice work John.

I also just built a Chunk Systems Agent 00Funk to go with it. the two pedals were made for each other and the Brown Dog has specialized output to connect to the 00Funk's specialized input.
IMO, it's an awesome fuzz/filter combo. I think that it's a shame that they're both discontinued. (and BTW, I used the factory schematics to make both pedals).

Lovin' the etched look John....it looks like the pedal is made from solid pewter.

John any chance we can get some sound clips of the brown dog and chunk. individually and together..
i'll try to make some later today.

and here's a pretty cool big muff variant, the Dead Astronaut Space Patrol Fuzz. it has a hi/lo ('fat switch') as well as a 4 way rotary for 3 more (2 synthy/octave up, and 1 duck& swell) tones.
