since i've always liked the tone in the many videos that i've seen & heard, I just got my second B3k today. the newest version's attack switch has a hi-cut filter (along with a hi-boost and 'hi- flat' setting)
with the hi-cut, I do like it better than the first one that I had (a USA version) but I guess that this pedal's overall 'voicing' just doesn't work for me.
I was trying to figure out what bugged me about it and once I ran an real time analyzer test on its drive side I found out why.

John do you think you could try a trace or at least some good gutshots before you send it back? I'd actually be interested in it. Even if the sound isn't quite as good as it could be right now it can surely be modded.

For the record, the B3K works well for me, playing classic rock and blues.

it looks like the deep peaky one is at 325Hz and the other one is at 700Hz.

Ahh, thank you. I just looked at your plot on my computer, and the frequencies are plainly visible along the bottom. On my phone they were just little "-" dashes.

after having two Darkglass B3K's and a VMT (after hearing great sounding clips and supporting his endeavors), neither one did it for me (i.e they changed my original bass tone too much for my taste), here's one that I've been working on for a while. Doug posted the schematic for a guitar OD/distortion pedal on the DIY forums a few years ago and back then, it was called a B2K.
i built it, but made a few changes to make it more suitable for bass, re-voicing its frequency response, changing the gain structure & adding a blend and relay true bypass like a B3K. I call my version the B4K .
note: these are not going to be for sale. I just wanted to have at least one of his designs for myself.

I know the Fat Sandwich isn't favoured, but are there any mods for it? They're going dirt cheap right now.

I modded the heck out of mine but it still is light in the low end department. I wouldn't recommend one for bass at all, even if it's super cheap.

John I know you really liked the Holy Fire, have you tried out the Grizzly? It seems we have similar tastes in overdrives and I've been really impressed with this one.
