overdrive/fuzz quest

Thanks
Rethinking my non compressed request.
I now realize that "uncompressed" in regards to an OD pedal may mean that the distortion action is dynamic (harder string attack = more distortion)
I was referring if the pedal acts more like a compressor in general terms

My gut feeling is that in a band situation it may be better if pedal output is dynamic without compression, but with a constant distortion level (which I equate more to an SVT).

Having not used a pedal, does this constant distortion theory seem right when playing rock, funk, & R&B and not being lost in the live mix?

if the dirt makes it 'squat' too much, it can get lost in the mix.

here's another cool sounding pedal that I built that has a germanium fuzz built into it. (label design courtesy of TB member domdec314):

John, I'd love to see you mod the sansamp racks to correct some of their deficiencies. Like flattening out the response of either of them when the knobs are at noon and completly in amp emulation mode. They would sound much better.

Some of those "deficiencies" are to give it a wider range of sounds with fewer knobs and switches. Don't know that I'd want to fix all of that.

been gasing bad for that acoustic 360 pedal. John what do you think of it? is that the whole preamp or just the fuzz. time to go listen to some Sly !!!!

that's the whole preamp with the fuzz and blend control and i love it. I recently serviced two original late 60's acoustic 360 preamps so i had a chance to A/B my pedal against them, and the pedal sounded absolutely identical to them. of course, it should, since it shares the exact same schematic and parts list and runs on the same voltage.

i bought the kit but have never gotten around to ordering the parts and building it. Does it work well as a pedal even though it is really a preamp or do you use it direct in only???
