Owning both a P Bass and a Jazz

I'm down to a P-style 4 (G&L L1000) and a Jazz V. The V is for sale but I'm tempted to swap for a Jazz 4-string although you never know when you'll need the 5-string.

Oh yea. I op for a J neck on the P body. Custom shop pick ups in both. Not the biggest fan of the warmoth neck on the J.

I think the best decision I made recently was to get a Fender Player series P Bass and Jazz. I could not decide which one to get and I considered an American P Bass or Jazz (could not afford both). For a little less I got the best of both worlds and although the American Fenders are better I have no issues with the MIM's. They sound and play great to me. Anyone else love owning both?

Great looking pair! It's so refreshing to see someone who loves their basses but admits the Americans are better. So many people on talkbass would never say that. Bravo!

Well I've always preferred the punchier sound of the P so I've never wanted a J. But last week I went to a gig - top class musicians - and the bassist had a P 4 and a J 5 on stage. He played most of the set with the P then switched to the J. In a live setting I could not tell the difference at all. I'm certain no-one else could either. Backs up what TBers say about bedroom tone I guess. Then again, maybe he did it for the extra string rather than tone reasons. I also get that you might prefer the tone of one but the feel of the other. So yeah, lots of reasons to do it, and hey, who ever needed a reason to go out and buy another bass? For me, its P bass, MM and TRB, gives me all I need. BTW OP, yours look a beautiful pair together

Correct decision. It is not a matter of either one. BOTH are NEEDED.

I have American Standards of both, and keep going back and forth over which one is my main bass. Which really means neither is, both are perfect for what they do!

I have both and both are significantly upgraded Squier CVs. There are good fits for each. I also have a G&L L2500 because it also has it's place.

The only thing I lack is a fretless Jazz but a good friend has one I can borrow if I ever have that need so I've chosen not to invest in one I'd seldom use.
