Ozzy Calls It Quits!!!

I’m surprised it took this long.
In all honesty, I think he's wearing the years of his lifestyle much better than anybody could have expected - and I'm sure that at his paygrade there are things that would make touring MUCH easier than at the paygrade I'd get on a tour (which is honestly probably barely enough to keep gas in the van), but it would still be hard - physically and psychologically.

I think it's okay for the guy to take a bow on that one. I'm sure he could easily do a residency somewhere or do one-off performances here and there but no judgement.

Can't understand a word he says, but I can understand every word he sings.

Hopefully he can continue to record.
I've always thought about what it would be like to listen to a conversation between Ozzy, James Brown, and Keith Richards... :meh:

Ozzy was one of the idols of my youth; not for his vocal qualities (he has little and admits that) and not because of his song writing ability (I believe Geezer wrote most of the Black Sabbath lyrics). It was because of the frontman he was, by my estimation: one of the best in rock music at one point.

I feel for Ozzy. I can relate in too many ways. I hope he's not experiencing all the real ills of banging up against his mortality.

I can no longer gig, but I am recording my Gluteus off!
That is correct. In Black Sabbath it was Geezer who wrote most of the lyrics, and when he went solo it was Bob Daisley.

He did have a knack for picking awesome musicians for his band, and he has an instantly recognisable voice. And his body of work is pretty awesome.

I will say this (and I've been saying it since 1981 [or so]): both Ozzy and Black Sabbath benefited (musically and financially) from that break up.

That's a good point, excellent point actually.

And this is strictly a personal thing, but I prefer the post Ozzy Black Sabbath albums. Heaven and Hell, Mob Rules, Headless Cross, Born Again, and Dehumanizer are among my favourites.

I have to disagree, here. I could not - for the life of me - stand "Born Again". While I love Ian Gillan's work with Deep Purple and Rainbow, I thought bringing him into Sabbath was a huuuuuuuuuuuge mistake.

I tried to like that album. I just couldn't.

Hated the post Ozzy Black Sabbath albums, they sounded exactly like too much time spent in the studio trying to come up with good material while snorting mountains of coke weekly.
Somehow Ozzy made some fantastic albums in that condition with the help of some great hired hands.
I really dislike Ronnie James Dio's vocal style, along with the other pretendo opera guys Bruce Dickinson and Rob Halford.

It really grew on me, and the entire story surrounding it, Gillan joining the band, the recording, making the video, and how the album cover came about, it's hilarious! :D

This is an excerpt of the documentary about Born Again, it's so funny!

And Gillan's vocal on that album are fantastic!
