P Bass - Maple vs Rosewood neck

I actually just picked up an American standard p bass today with a maple board. I have to say when I compared it to the rosewood boards it just had a little extra bite with the tone cranked up. You can still get the warmth if you roll the tone back but if you want something that will cut through then the maple board is the way to go. When you try them out you'll hear the difference...its subtle sometimes but still there.

I drove an American Standard P two days ago at GC, and absolutely LOVED it. Clean, bright, punchy, articulate, I just might have to buy myself one. Oh yeah - it had a maple neck, I loved the feel.

Since very, very few guitar or bass guitar manufacturers offer an instrument with a rosewood neck - which tends to be very heavy and very expensive - I assume you must be referring instead to a maple fingerboard/fretboard vs. rosewood fingerboard/fretboard. Yes? :eyebrow:

Well, since the dude just joined about three months ago, maybe we should cut him some slack. To that end, well done Burning Skies, as always.

And, of course, there also exists the distinct possibility of someone who has something to offer and hasn't yet had the opportunity.

To address OP's question, I'm in the camp who notices a slightly more snappy tone with a maple board. I'm also in the camp that a lot of others will accuse of imagining things. :)
