Pairing 1000W amp with 400W cab

Thing is a lot of road accidents happen because someone doing something slightly dubious they've done a thousand times before meets someone else doing something slightly dubious they've done a thousand times before, and the combination is way way worse than the sum of its parts. When you work in any trade for a while you've seen a lot of what happens when two bits of bad luck meet.

I saw an accident happen 2 days ago, the woman said she looked away for just a second and drifted enough to catch the edge of the road. She's lucky he didn't roll her car but she did get pretty banged up when the air bags deployed. Tore the crap out of the car in fence wire and posts, it's a goner. Ripped one wheel & spindle off too.

Everything was perfectly fine until it wasn't

Yes, 33% for subs and bass is great for "clean" applications . Remember the bad old days when reggae was using square waves into scoops because the amps weren't big enough ? Them old Peavey CS800's had a defeat switch for the limiter .

I still have four of those that work. 2 of them are the first generation heavy as a 57 chevy and the other 2 are the next gen heavy as a chevette models. Having a hard time letting them go as they run subs phenomenally.

So I have a Hartke 4x10 amp rated at 400W @ 8ohms. I’m checking out the Bugera BV1001M bass head to pair with it, which is rated 1000W at 8 ohms. Is it possible to have to much headroom? Do I risk damaging my cab with an amp this powerful? Should I opt for my secondary choice, the Peavey MiniMega, rated 1000W @ 4 ohms? Thanks.

Whatever brands you buy, ask for it in writing what both companies will fully back with their warranties. You can expect that manufacturers will probably only be able to speak only to the same brand being used with the amp and cabinet. You can also expect that some cabinet makers consider speakers (drivers) to be consumables. It often shows in the warranty as a much shorter period of time for the driver warranties. Usually 50% less warranty period on drivers. If you find a manufacturer with long warranties on both, and if they have actual service centers, then it may speak to higher quality in all with that brand.
