Parents on tour?

Your first mistake was assuming you had to convince her instead of just leaving.
Yeah, rock on tough guy. The kid is 16. If my 16 year old kid ran off on an out of state tour with a bunch of young adults I"d have the law involved.

This kid has a mom who is supportive, and willing to put time and effort into seeing his dreams realized. That support will be invaluable as he faces preparing for a career, in music or whatever.

And to you YOLO people ... yeah, and you have to live with the choices you make along the way ... YOLO, and there are NO do-overs.

Thank you so much for all the great advice guys, I decided that my friends should suck it up and deal with my mom . Addressing the acid thing though, it was one time with people that were not my current bandmates. As i said before me no likey drugs or alcohol. Anyways, thanks a bunch for the advice guys.

EXCELLENT advice.

IMHO
If you are living in mommies house, eating mommies food, sucking up mommies utilities, and depending on mommie to finance and supply all of your needs and wants, You are NOT in any position to think that you are ANY kind of a shot caller.

When YOU are mature enough to support yourself, THEN you can call some shots.

This is irregardless of age, but even more so as a minor.
Sadly too many parents suck at being parents, IF they even bother trying.

If more PARENTS would buck up and do their job, instead of pushing the responsibility off on the school system, and others,
The world wold not have such a dismal future.

IMHO
YMMV

Believe it or not sometimes that's your only cable option. My mom wouldn't let me drive my own car so i started stealing it out anyway. She didn't like me going out at night and would hide my keys so I'd take a bus.

Don't argue just act. Eventually when she sees you coming home fine shell let you loose. Some parents are just too protective. If you have basic common sense you'll be fine.

Just remember always wear a rubber and don't do anything that was probably smuggled up some ones butt stop drinking hen u get dizzy. And avoid dumbasses at any cost.

If some one got'**** faced then gets in a car don't get in with them. Next always have some cab money in your pocket or else'dont travel anywhere out of walking distance

LOL. Excellent advice! :p :rollno:

I live in Georgia and my band decided to go on a little southern tour. It is summer and we are planning on booking shows in Alabama, North and South Carolina and Tennessee. I told my mom about this and she says that there has to be parental supervision when we go to these shows. Keep in mind that everyone in my band is 18 or 19 and i'm only 16. Everyone is getting irked at the fact that my mom is going. So how can i convince my mom to leave me be and just trust me on this one.

let me know how this treats you

maybe someone made the observation..but this sounds exactly like that movie..with that guy from the office..the name escapes me..but it had that creepy old drummer guy.

just be careful your mom doesnt get involved with someone during the tour. ( kinda happened in the movie)

You've got more maturity and judgement than a lot of the "adults" giving you advice in this thread. And a good mom. Rock on, dude.

IMHO, you’re very lucky your mum even cares, take her with you and be happy that she loves you.

+1. Good decision.

Don't know about the rest of the state, but in Birmingham Alabama kids under 18 are not allowed in a bar under any circumstances. If it's a restaurant and bar you can get in the food part but not the alcohol part. That said, we've done a few dates with my 17 year old nephew playing drums and never had any problem but he could pass for early 20's. I don't know if I'd be driving in from out of state with the possibility of being carded and turned away even if I had my mom with me.

You might want to check out the various state/local laws regards minors in bars before you make any serious commitments. I'd think the last thing you'd want would be to screw the pooch for your band mates by getting booted from a venue when you are a couple states away from home.

Just me, but I think I'd tell them to find a temporary sub for the out of town shows until you turn 18.

My Mom had let me go to a weekend hippy festival when i was 16...even let me take the car. Anyone that has been to a hippy fest knows it is pretty much a black market for drugs. In all honestly it turned out fine though.

Looking back i am extremely lucky my parents even let me go, but i'm glad they said yes, and would likely let my kid do the same thing assuming they have been a responsible and good kid up until that point.

So for advice, it will involve a sit down with your mom to convince her you are responsible enough to handle the trip on your own, which i know you probably are. Approach the issue from her point of view if you want to succeed. Otherwise, be grateful she's willing to go with you and maybe next time she'll shorten the leash a little. Good luck :)

Well, if you get gigs, and this thing happens for you guys, having a mother willing to let you go at 16, even if it means going herself(which many parents wouldn't do), is really not a bad deal.

Were I you, I'd definitely have your bandmates suck it up and deal. If they don't want supervision(or you to have any), it's likely because they want to get up to **** that will be no good for them(or you) in the end.

Since it seems you've decided on your mother, be thankful she cares. And take it as an opporotunity to earn trust(even with her around) that will still serve you well even when you are a little older.

About 10 years ago we did a few shows out of town in the span of about a week. There were 5 of us. 3 of us were 21, our drummer was 19, and then my brother was the bassist (I played lead guitar at the time), and he was a senior in high school (though 18). My parents wouldn't allow my brother to go, because he would miss school, and they didn't want their little boy out on the road with his brother and his friends! (Probably a smart idea on their part!) So our drummer's Dad, who was a seasoned bassist in his own right, took some time off work and did these shows with us.

Now that I'm in my early 30s, I kind of agree with your Mom, sadly.
