Patriotic GAS

I’m hoping the stimulus cash goes to those who really need it, and not just to everyone.

Amazing how disaster brings out the best in people, and sadly the worst, too.

Yeah I'm far from rich and I could always use extra money but I don't think I'll absolutely need this "free" money. There should still be enough overtime at my job so I think I'll be ok. Is there a way to opt out of this stimulus check?

Edit: If I did get this check, it would go to bills that I'd have to pay regardless.

If you have the means to take an unexpected money gift over to a guitar shop and drop it on a new piece of gear, then with a little bit of discomfort you could probably do it without the gift. The person who just lost his restaurant job with NO OTHER SIMILAR JOB OPENINGS across the entire country (this is not hyperbole - it is literally true right now), is in a much more dire situation. No one is disputing the idea that we need to spend and stimulate, but the need for cash-in-hand is far greater for certain folks right now. The rest of us are all hedging and saving expecting the worst to come. Maybe the best we can do is accept a little risk, spend money to keep the economy moving. Not an easy thing to do - actively work against what you think are in your own personal best interests.
Help people the way you feel is best, but I think we should respect each other’s choices.

The preponderance of US spending, the part that has been keeping things humming so well, is consumer discretionary spending. Consumer confidence has been high, and now it will be very low. Spending money on a "luxury good" is therefore not only defensible, but essential for the economy.

If all the stimulus dollars are returned only to the food and expendables markets, the other sectors will suffer. Someone has to reach in their pocket and support, say, private luthiers. So there is no "sin" in the idea of buying a "luxury" good. Remember, the Musician's Friend sales agent also needs a dollar, as does the guy who packs it, as does the UPS guy. And Fender. And Tony Franklin, for licensing his name. Etc.

I didn’t see anything about salary vs hourly, only considerations of income itself and some adjustment for household size
This will be good for those really affected. Our drummer is a server at a 4/5- star Hotel in Nashville and I know he is going to need some help.

I can't really think of any instrument-related GAS I'm feeling right now, but I have a few pedal modding projects I've been wanting to get done for a while and haven't gotten around to. Maybe I'll do that sometime in the next few months. Germanium diode option for my Dunwich ODB, high passed clean blend on my Throat Locust, maybe some other goodies here and there. I already ordered up a Wazacraft Metal Zone, maybe I'll look into possible clean blend mod options for that too.

If you're a U.S. taxpayer, opting out is probably more trouble than it's worth. However, the U.S. Treasury will always accept contributions for the express purpose of reducing the national debt. And I'll leave it at that.

Illinois has a shelter in place order so there is no gear shopping for me in the immediate future. I do not know about ordering things because I am not sure if delivery services will be able to operate as usual. My goal right now is to do some work on gear I already have to make it more playable.

More than anything else, I wish me, my family, and my extended Talkbass family to come out of this alive and healthy. If this is like other viruses, we will eventually develop a level of herd immunity and pretty much be able to live with this disease, especially if a vaccine is developed. In the meantime, I am teaching online, and taking lessons online. God Bless everyone!

Best wishes to you and your loved ones Dr. Cheese, and everybody else of course. This won't be the first pandemic the world has survived. We can only hope our elderly and other high risk people don't get caught up in this. Glad you're keeping a positive outlook.

Please no politics, just GAS.

It appears that substantial stimulus is coming our way soon. Some of that money will be earmarked for some responsible adult things, but we should get enough that I can pass some GAS. I know some things I might buy, but I talk about my GAS so much, I want to hear what others might do to musically boost the economy?

I‘m not counting my proverbial chickens before they hatch, because of 12:30pm eastern time, they haven’t passed the bill yet. Also, from everything that I’ve read, the stimulus payments will potentially start at $1k per individual based on their yearly salary of $75k a year or less. For every $100.00 over that, you can deduct $5 from the $1k. Couples filing jointly will get $2,400.00 if they make a combined $150k or less. Two things are not in my favor here:
1. My wife is a CPA and any gear that I may want, has to have her blessing.
2. Not sure how much we will get, if anything at all, based on the salary caps that the (pathetic) government has laid out in the bill.

I hate getting my hopes up for anything, but most especially when it comes to gear, only to have them quashed. I’ll have to live vicariously through y’all for now.

I found out that ordering is still possible from some sources. I will see what’s possible after I make sure stuff is together at home first.
