Patriotic GAS

I've got three large deposits coming soon, if both halves of the proposed payment go through, my annual bonus (company already confirmed it will be paid), this $5K (married, one kid), plus ESPP money. The smart thing would be to take care of the stuff I know needs fixing (water heater is limping, so is my furnace), pay off general debt, or completely pay off my car. Still browsed Sweetwater the second I heard about it. I need to focus more on playing the bass I've got vs buying the next one, but I would really love a 5-string, or a short scale, or a P, or or or or.

Yes Dr - I'll definitely be helping to stimulate the economy!

Gotta support the supply chain! ;)

Spend it locally, in local shops/bars/restaurants that will be hurting, especially music-friendly venues. Not big chains either, local coffee shop not Starbucks, buy a book from a local bookstore if you have them left not Amazon, buy groceries from a local store not Walmart...you get the picture.

My wife and I have stable jobs and are not in danger of being laid-off. We will also continue to be paid even though we are not actually going to work (distance teaching/learning). So we will be donating anything we get to local charities that are going to help those who are being laid-off. Most of these people are being laid-off because the local government is closing down the business they work for and the employer (usually a small business) cannot keep paying them. It's no one's fault. Like everyone, they are a victim of circumstance. It isn't like they are being laid-off because of en economic downturn and greedy banks. I'm not going to tell anyone what to do with their money, but at this time I would rather give it directly (or as directly as possible) to people who need it rather than a corporation that doesn't.

Wife was just telling me about this. We have a handful of kids, so it will be even more $.
She wants a drum set.
Oldest kid wants an Ibanez 7-string.
I want some Nordstrand pickups, Polytune, and maybe another Eden 112STX.

We SHOULD pay off the van.

In reality, we will probably sit on it in case I get sick for an extended period of time and have to take unpaid leave.

Edit: not to get too political, but it really worries me where this $ is coming from. I would rather not receive anything and have it go those who really NEED it than anything.

Edit again: I just read some of the terms and we probably wont qualify anyway.

I'm skeptical that we'll end up getting that stimulus, but I wonder what do with it. My wife is an "essential" at a major hospital so even though I'm out of my part-time job and won't be getting any gig money for the next month or so, we aren't going to be hurting too bad if we tighten the belt a bit.

Unfortunately, GAS won't figure into it at all. There's almost nothing I want that wouldn't be another custom job and that kind of money won't be on the table for a longtime. A few other options...

-Now -or when it gets even worse- would be the opportune time to drop it into investments. Maybe and ETF or Index?
-Contractors may be in a mood to deal, so maybe taking care of some of those niggling house issues.
-Maybe kicking the last of some minor debt.
-Putting more $ in the family Disney fund?

Dang, all that adult responsibility has got me feeling awfully lame.

My wife and I are kind of a best case scenario. I retired last summer and have already been working remotely teaching an online course. She is a regional admin for Extension at our university, and she is working from home for the rest of the month. I'm 69, and she's pushing 65, so we really don't need to be in contact with a lot of people anyway. Her income will continue unchanged and mine has transitioned.

I'm inclined to volunteer, but as part of the high risk group I can't say that I'm itching to do it. I feel like the wiser course is to stay home, clean the garage, and occasionally buy take-out lunch and dinner to help restaurant workers earn a buck.

Please no politics, just GAS.

It appears that substantial stimulus is coming our way soon. Some of that money will be earmarked for some responsible adult things, but we should get enough that I can pass some GAS. I know some things I might buy, but I talk about my GAS so much, I want to hear what others might do to musically boost the economy?

I’m not sure what we will do with it. Most certainly it isn’t going to be spent reducing GAS. I have way more equipment than I’ll ever need.
